you guys really need to learn to stop responding to trolls, unless you have a plan to trap them into getting themselves banned

wapo story just out...

In what was in effect an ultimatum, he said Moscow must calculate the costs of remaining an ally of Assad, the Iranians and Lebanon’s Shiite militia Hezbollah.

“Is that a long-term alliance that serves Russia's interests?” he told reporters. “Or would Russia prefer to realign with the United States, with other Western countries and Middle East countries that are seeking to resolve the Syrian crisis?”

In a sign of escalating tensions — even before Tillerson exited his plane in Moscow — Putin told a news conference the Kremlin has “information” that provocateurs are planning to plant chemical substances in suburban Damascus and blame it on Syrian authorities. He gave no further details on the stunning claim.

But ratings are up! The people love the show! Brian Williams gets to bust out his a ca pella stylings and a bunch of liberal pundits get to prove that they're really patriotic after all because they can get behind a good old fashioned bombing just like the conservatives.

I guess I'm just counting on North Korea being incapable of actually hitting Los Angeles. I don't think they could, but that's not a sure thing.

Is it possible that our best hope for avoiding nuclear war is the influence on Trump of Brietbart?
04-11-2017 , 11:14 AM
I've said this before and will say it again, every single person who voted for Trump is responsible for ****ing up our country (and beyond).

Isn't the only part of the US currently in their range Alaska? My understanding is they'd need to make further improvements to even hit Hawaii, let alone the mainland.

I don't know. I'm not bullish on their technology and I'd guess they'd have trouble successfully hitting anything anywhere. I sure hope that's the case, but moreso that there's no attempt. I was just thinking that if I were concerned about LA I could take my family and leave.

Their missiles are pieces of **** and their nukes are too large to be launched by missile, so I'm fairly confident that the western US is safe from NK.

If we do something stupid and piss off China, that's a whole different situation.

**** that, we need to stop rewarding the Kims for being ****ty dictators. I'm not saying let's nuke NK or anything stupid but continuing to try to appease them obviously isn't working.

NK with functional, launchable nukes is a complete disaster. if there's one thing i'm confident of, it's that SOMETHING has to be done to **** them up in some way shape or form before they possess the capability to **** us up. you know, since they've been promising to do for so long now

unfortunately i have to echo the sentiments expressed itt already in that donald trump and his crew of dolts are the last people i'd want calling the shots re: how to proceed in that

If this was truly possible I am sure China would have done this already just to avoid having a conflict with the US over supporting that banana republic.

It isn't? How many people have died there since say 1960? Now contrast that with how many will die if bullets start flying.

Remember too, there are five MILLION land mines in the DMZ separating the two Koreas and Seoul is close enough to NK for them to shell it with artillery (and with low-yield nukes, by the way). We'd be looking at hundreds of thousands of dead civilians in the first HOUR of a conflict. Plus the DPRK forces aren't like the Iraqis, they're going to fight with everything they have.

They do. But they also kind of like his antics because it forces the US to come to them for 'help' to keep him under control, which gives them leverage.

The whole thing is just a shakedown. But paying him off is way cheaper than going to war, both in terms of money and casualties. It's an easy calculus imo

i think he means 'not working' in the context of NK making legitimate, tangible advancements and progress towards developing intercontinental ballistic nuclear missiles

Nah this type of posturing is done all the time. Only reason it's getting news because it's Trump.

As for Korean Fatty this is nothing new for him either. His threats of action are as toothless as Trump's.

Zero.

Can N. Korea even launch a missile +200 miles off their coast yet?

MAD assures us this will never happen unless of course they are also willing to be nuked into oblivion.

i think the general consensus that there will come a day when his threats may not be as toothless, possibly within just a few years, because at that point they will have developed the capacity to actually back them up

Our missile defense located between the west coast and NK will more than cover anything they can do unless they pack it on a ship and park it in a bay before they detonate.

I don't fear the launching of missiles. As for the technology we can than Bill Clinton for passing that information on to China that aided their development in that area.

The problem isn't NK hitting the U.S. directly.

A few things:
1. NK can hit Seoul which has >25 million people in the main metro area alone. They have enough conventional artillery to create serious damage here.
2. US soldiers are stationed in Seoul and throughout the area of southeast Asia.
3. Even if you take out the NK regime, you have millions of North Korean refugees now that is going to create a huge humanitarian crisis in addition to the other humanitarian crises the world has going on right now.
4. Russia/China/Japan all are in the area and if they get involved that sets off alliances which could trigger a WW3.
