Trump’s Son Met With Russian Lawyer After Being Promised Damaging Information on Clinton
In a statement on Sunday, Donald Trump Jr. said he had met with the Russian lawyer at the request of an acquaintance. “After pleasantries were exchanged,” he said, “the woman stated that she had information that individuals connected to Russia were funding the Democratic National Committee and supporting Ms. Clinton. Her statements were vague, ambiguous and made no sense. No details or supporting information was provided or even offered. It quickly became clear that she had no meaningful information.”

He said she then turned the conversation to adoption of Russian children and the Magnitsky Act, an American law that blacklists suspected Russian human rights abusers. The law so enraged President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia that he retaliated by halting American adoptions of Russian children.

“It became clear to me that this was the true agenda all along and that the claims of potentially helpful information were a pretext for the meeting,” Mr. Trump said.

When he was first asked about the meeting on Saturday, he said only that it was primarily about adoptions and mentioned nothing about Mrs. Clinton.

Why is nobody on this forum capable of attacking Glenn Greenwald without resorting to the worst arguments? What the hell does Ted Cruz's dumb ass have to do with Greenwald's article?

97 "Hollywood Upstairs Medical College" Timothy "T-Bone" Faust
108 "Night On Bald Mountain" Matt Bruenig
113 "Hit and Run" R.L. Stephens
116 "Jezz In My Pants" N/A June 12, 2017

There are plenty of other good ones but these are good/substantive.

65 "No Future" with Adam Curtis is still likely the best.

I would recommend to start with #58 "We Live in The Zone Now" and #61 "Who Makes The Nazis?" The former is the first post-election episode. Neither of these count as 'more recent' but I suspect they're the best intro episodes.

The two-part tabletop gaming one is tied with the two-part Newsroom/The West Wing roast for the most straightforwardly entertaining, imo.

Off topic but everyone should read Al Franken's new autobiography. It was very good. I leaned a lot about the process.

I think it's trump derangement that would make any liberal prefer pence over trump. Not only is pence further to the right, he doesn't strike me as a dolt and could probably start legislation getting thru on the hill.

The general consensus is that you're right as far as you go, but that Trump presents a much, much higher risk of serious **** kicking off internationally.

Its easier to replace someone if you ever have another election, enjoy some sort of free press and did not go into a nuclear war with NKorea cause someone said your hair looks funny.

Amazing. I want my collusion mild with a side of treason sauce? Anyway it's not collusion if Don jr didn't get anything from the meeting.

Is pence not a saber rattler? I think a lot of you would rather have pence over trump because pence is nice and doesn't tweet. I get it that it's a Sophie's choice

If Trump were impeached then Pence would not be viewed as fully legitimate and thus would have less political capital to spend on getting things done, I imagine.

I'm curious if people who are more familiar with the Nixon/Ford era think that's correct in practice.

I agree with you that a competent Pence administration would be worse for liberals, though lower variance.
07-09-2017 , 06:29 PM
Look a what Trump's administration is doing. How could Pence go any further right? Pence is preferable to Trump only because we are less likely to end up in a war with North Korea or have a Russian takeover with Pence. Don't confuse that with Pence being a good option.
07-09-2017 , 06:32 PM
I dont think it necessarily have to do with Pence going more right wing, its more that trump is too incompetent to get anything passed, Pence would likely have better ability for that since hes probably not a complete moron. And of course Trump is under investigation by Muller so his powers are drastically reduced anyways since nobody wants to get within a miles distance.

(however Trump is eroding everything called norms and institutions so anything is better)

Psst, Hey Don Jr, I'm a Russian person. I want to have a meeting with you but I can't tell you what about. Bring Jared and Mannyfart too! Oh and don't tell Daddy you naughty boy!

Working to prevent election hacking?

I can't believe people buy that. I'd hope for the GOP to stick it to him but they have no spine. They want their seat despite the reality that it won't be theirs if Trump has any say in it.

Because it and every other seat in Congress will not exist in the near future.

don jr is actually claiming today that he was told the meeting was about getting damaging information about hillary clinton, and then he asked jared and paul manafort to join him at this meeting while not telling THEM what the meeting was about, and they went anyway even though it was june 2016 an extremely hectic time in the campaign

Yeah uh, bro, like, what?

His first draft was to say he never met the Russians. This is a good line as far as being innocent, but it's easy to prove wrong. Very easy.

Second, much better, was that it was a meeting about some adoption bull****. OK. That's just being lobbied. This is fine. It's not great because of the implications, people wouldn't believe it, but as a story, it makes you innocent.

The third line is that he was there to do crimes, but he got tricked to be there, actually there were no crimes, it was a ploy to get the opportunity to be lobbied. What the ****? Now everyone still thinks you're lying but you also admitted the intent to participate in crime!

He's a Republican, so basically yes. But we aren't looking at any non-Republican options, like you say it's a Sophie's Choice. Point being that Pence might well start a new war, but Trump might actually go nuclear. I don't mean to be hysterical or give the impression I think that's particularly likely. But it's a ****ton more likely under Trump than under Pence, imo.
