The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

Some of them already think all that, which is why they're currently in the process of going ****ing themselves as we speak.

Trump won't be able to pass Executive Orders unilaterally, the courts will be able to keep him accountable on that. But as for impeachment or obstruction of justice, I don't see anything the courts can actually do. Congress would have to hold him accountable and they aren't going to.
06-18-2017 , 06:30 PM
Yeah you said that already.

Most of the presidential council on hiv/aids have resigned stating its because Trump does not give a **** about the disease.

So this is a problem I've been experiencing lately... I interact with a number of otherwise fairly reasonable Trump supporters on a daily basis, hard though that may be to believe. Anyway, whenever politics comes up I feel a sense of dysphoria, as I address the number of ways Trump is threatening our democracy, and am met with hand waving and disregard for my points. As a result, I'm having a real problem with coming to grips with an objective reality. If such otherwise educated people can come to such radically different conclusions than me, how can I be sure of my beliefs? Anyone else experiencing anything like this? Really having a hard time with life during a Trump presidency.

The Republican party is a party of Fascism now. They don't believe in democracy. They have been creeping into this for awhile now. See their use of stringent Voter ID laws to suppress the votes of minorities and steal elections. See their stealing of a Supreme Court seat. See their refusal to hold Trump accountable for anything, and their use of Congressional investigations for totally partisan purposes (discrediting Hillary).

They're not going to suddenly decide that they need to defend democracy, because they don't believe in democracy. They believe in fascism and violence.

Such as? Every Trump supporter I talk to deals in nothing other than unadulterated nonsense and racism.

I've never experienced this with Trump, but I have decades ago with religion. Maybe it doesn't happen anymore because I have an idea of what sorts of traps to look for based on previous experiences.

If you like that outer-world confused feeling, try debating Desim with somebody.

Now for the dark cloud to this silver lining...

Nothing was resolved. ZERO. Now there are just a bunch of off limit topics, negatively affecting the both of us, that we have to tiptoe around to avoid all sorts of conflict, and that list of topics is steadily growing.
So yeah, Father's Day dinner and celebrating my wife finishing off her masters, my dad decides to teolll me all day, "well you just gotta be more PC and it'll be all right" "yep that is Trumps fault, too" "sounds like there's not enough safe spaces". Mind you most of this didn't make the slighted bit of sense in context, I just ignored the obvious trolling. Finally he pulled a doozie that did trigger the **** out of me, "Trump is the greatest president for the working man since FDR!"

My response, "it would be a shame if I dont see mom again until you died, but if you keep talking politics around me, that's what's going to happen."

Him, "I'm just messing with you, I didn't think you were one of those pansy liberals who can't even take a joke. Besides it's Father's Day, I'm allowed to **** with my kids on fathers fay."

"Dad, Father's Day is over. decide whether you want me around for the rest of your life." And I left.

Seriously, **** trump.
06-18-2017 , 07:53 PM
Why didn't you ask him to name one thing that Trump has done for the working man? I don't know I guess I just like making people acknowledge that they are full of **** moreso than outright attacks. That said I doubt Trump supporters care about reality, just how Trump makes them feel.
06-18-2017 , 07:56 PM
daaayum will

I'm lucky with no Trumpkins in my family, but I really have no problem just nodding my head and pretending I'm listening to whatever my mom is talking about.

Mom mom hates Trump so we cool.

This one seems backwards. Normally it's the Trumpkin who is put in the position where they're forced to confront how stupid they are, that makes them mad and then they withdraw.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that you two actually had some substantive political discussions in the past. Even then the above seems a little weird. But I suppose it really depends on how prior conversations went.

This is the most effective tactic by far IMO, and one I've started using. It's far better than trying to shame the unshame-able by referring to them as rubes, morons, uneducated, or fools. True in most cases, but doesn't bother them.

Keep reminding them instead that his job numbers through 150 days are horrible, his 1stQ economic growth was putrid, he's completely ignored the Rust Belt and Midwestern regions of the country that put him in office, and his promises about the manufacturing and coal mining industries have gone unfulfilled.

Oh, and the national debt continues to rise under his reign, too.

They get off on cruelty and knowing they've hurt us. Watch out for that one, he'll send you to the camps in a heartbeat.

They probably won't say it out loud but when you ask that question their mental response is "He's deporting all the Mexicans and letting cops kill blacks without complaint, what more can a Working Man ask for?"

A vehicle collided with some pedestrians in London with several casualties, CNN is saying.

Trump sending us to defcon X for brown terrorists I'm sure.

My dad and grandpa are trumpkins. When they start their trumpkin bull****, I've just silently stared at them with disgust enough times now, that politics rarely comes up anymore.

The pedestrians were people leaving a mosque. Daddy says "nothing to see here".

Where's this fake news everybody keeps talking about? I watch CNN and MSNBC regularly and and don't see any lies. My own sources for comparison are mainly Trump tweets, full interviews, full hearings, WH statements, etc.

Can anybody show me examples of fake news from either of those channels? Trump calls CNN especially fake all the time, but (like so many other claims) he never has evidence for it.

Oh really? That's not terrorism!

EDIT: Wait, was the vehicle's operator a drunk driving immigrant? That will confuse the **** out of Trump. Probably one of those things about being president that makes it harder than he thought it would be.

Yep, you did help. You showed you don't give a **** what Daddy Orange does. Your moral compass is nil. You live in a reality where you'd blindly jump off a cliff if your Dear Leader told you to.

If I was employed by CNN or the New York Times, I'd be pretty tilted that 40% of the country couldn't differentiate me from a 19 year old eastern european writing articles out of his mom's basement.

RV Life: How do you feel about Trump beheading 14 innocent children on national TV at the Easter Egg Roll event?

adios: That's a moral issue. Moral issues are handled by the church. Glad I could help (downplay Trump's criminality by ignoring your question about my personal feelings on the POTUS repeatedly spitting on the law).
