At this point it seems we pretty much have to invade Iran. We can't let the Bowling Green Massacre go unanswered.

Changing the SS is in the category of scariest things imo. There was already talk about Trump having private security. He's battling the existing government and wants to be sure security is loyal only to him, not the government or constitution.

Pissing off the CIA could be worse.

Actually only 46% of voters voted for him, and only about 55% of eligible voters voted. So only about 25% of the people you cross in the street (wildly varying based upon region and rural/urban of course) voted for Trump.

What is this obsession that Republicans have with Iran? Every few years they begin their Iran-bashing, saber-rattling. Meanwhile Iran hasn't done anything to justify this aggression. It's a pretty quiet country that hasn't directly attacked Americans or other countries in decades. Proxy wars? Sure. But everyone engages in those, especially the US. Is it because Iran is Shia? I can't figure it out.

It's because they have influence in Iraq and the Middle East in general. In some ways R's have a right to be scurred.

This makes you a jackbooted authoritarian without respect for the Constitution.

Obviously this is not a clear issue and under some circumstances people could be cleared. The video shown is clearly not one of those cases. Everyone was just standing around and most people (like most protests nowadays) were just getting video on their phones.

Republicans like bombing brown people and if they can manufacture a war there to get their rocks off, they will.

I sense Trump pulling a LBJ Gulf of Tonkin type of move to trigger the war.

Iran is the main state opponent to both Israel and Saudi Arabia.

I think it was in this thread that I brought up evolutionary biology in regards to authoritarianism and then np(buncha numbers) posted more on it. I want to be clear that I think there's an evolutionary basis for anti-authoritarianism as well. Some people innately love freedom more and others love beating up peaceful protestors more. And people can change as well, a little, sometimes.

The video was shot back with the press behind the scenes. But he clearly describes bricks being thrown at the police. Do you dispute that?

Dude you must be new here. It is ALWAYS Soros.

Also zero chance Trump knows what the Gulf of Tonkin incident was. 50/50 on Cuban Missle Crisis.

They also happen to be one of the biglyest nations for sponsoring terrorism. This also goes back to the hostage crisis of the 70's.

Even if he doesn't dispute that, you are advocating for indiscriminate grenade chucking which is lol bad.

There are hours and hours and hours of J20 video available on uToob. We know exactly what happened, and the exact timelines. We don't need to speculate.

Cliffs: Many of the very small number who broke things and threw rocks got away with it. The majority of those pepper sprayed and arrested did nothing illegal at all.

Are you apparently giving the guy who made the video some credence, so let's see what he said right before he said the bricks were thrown:

Quote:
It looks like the police are just indiscriminately throwing the flashbangs sometimes. We've just seen a journalist being hit straight head on. They're throwing it anywhere in the crowd.

Adding to the democracy debate

Quote:
Americans often express pride in their democracy, yet the results indicate that domestic and international experts rate the U.S. elections as the worst among all Western democracies.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/poste...=.e7f2a5d80f86

The USA probably is somewhere on the line between being a flawed democracy or a Plutocracy.

one thing that was real funny was at the black history event when trump is sitting with all these ppl around the table and everyone is going to say a few words about themselves. and if i understood it correctly one of the guys there really wants trump to come into contact or talk to some criminal thugs he knows. because they are "insiders", and he wants trump to work with them since they know whats going on etc. and he goes on and on about this and actually thinks that he can convince trump to get in touch with these ppl. anyone saw that? that was pretty lol tbh

edit: yeah here it is at 07:50 lol. thugs wanna work with his administration

Not sure how much of this is just me being precious but I am starting to reconsider the effect of the sarcastic repetition of right wing talking points. I engage in it as much as anyone (if not more) but in the light of just how dumb most people have proved themselves to be what is the chance that there are large amounts of people missing the sarcasm and thinking "even liberals are talking about benghazi it must be serious business". Obviously blaming snarky libs for trump is not something I'm particularly fond of but in the age of fake news something as comparatively subtle as the above exchange might genuinely be muddying the waters for large groups of dumb people.

The go to for internet liberals does seem to be repeating republican talking points but in a sarcastic manner. I worry the sarcasm is disregarded and the fake news is unintentionally reinforced. It's going to be a tough habit to break especially for me but I think I'm personally going to try and tone it down. The benefit of me feeling superior (while important) doesn't outweigh even the small possibility that I'm causing damage to the progressive cause.

There are some good pages in The Selfish Genes about evolution and game theory. Like, there is a Nash equilibrium where a certain percentage of a species end up being *******s and the others being nice because it's the optimal strategy for every individual.
