Having done some googling the age gap isn't as big as I thought. Their current ages are 51 and 33, they hooked up when they were 38 and 20 or thereabouts. I think he was 19 but almost 20. Could be worse.

I would guess that Wachtell had some serious issues with Greenwald. It may have been mutual, and Greenwald's complaints about Wachtell may have been legitimate. But there is almost no chance that he was a highly successful employee who just up and left after one year.
