I think owning the libs is an even bigger part of it. If you just had a bland boring racist guy they wouldn't have voted for him. But since he trolls and attacks everything they hate, they love him and policy doesn't really matter.

So much this. Widespread immigration is vital to the survial of the United States. Otherwise we are going to have eighty year old drone pilots crashing them into the ground. (Which I realize is fine by many standards but I am talking in terms of thwarting an invasion).

True, but AFAIK there isn't really much evidence for a significant change in numbers of migrants over the last decade or so. Immigration was down about 4% in 2016, but that could easily have been secondary to the economy being lousy and a lot of Mexican nationals going home.The 3000 in the caravan aren't even a rounding error, and are only significant because Trump is going to make a huge amount of political hay out of them. If I thought they were smart enough, I'd suspect the GOP is funding the caravan - it's hard to think of ANYTHING that is going to motivate the red state base more than this mess.

Most recent figures I saw showed a population growth rate of .7%, the US still (easily) has the largest migrant population in the world, and unlike most of Europe and Japan, we haven't entered a potential death spiral in terms of an essentially nonexistant birth rate. Not that it couldn't happen.
