re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: Individual-1

Unlike EPA, DOE, and HUD, there are some Trump supporters who care that the massive welfare project known as the VA is run competently. (I don't have a problem that's it's a massive welfare project, but that's what it is.)

I mean Jackson is arguably one of Trump's best picks, in that he's not going to actively work to undermine the VA's mission of providing healthcare to veterans, but he probably wouldn't do a good job at it either. Veteran's groups want a competent VA administrator, which is why they let the Obama guy stay on as long as he did.

re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: Individual-1

A couple of fun facts about Michael Avenatti, Stormy's lawyer.
Quote:
In 1999, he received a J.D. degree from George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. where he worked with Professor Jonathan Turley on constitutional issues relating to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). He graduated Order of the Coif and first in his class.[7] Avenatti later donated $250,000 to George Washington University Law School to establish the Michael J. Avenatti Award for Excellence in Pre-Trial and Trial Advocacy, an annual award given to the member of the graduating Juris Doctor class who demonstrates excellence in pre-trial and trial advocacy. [18]

While in college and later in law school, Avenatti worked at a political opposition and media firm, The Research Group, run by Rahm Emanuel (later White House Chief of Staff for President Barack Obama, and mayor of Chicago).[19] Avenatti worked on over 150 campaigns in 42 states, including multiple gubernatorial and congressional campaigns and Joe Biden’s U.S. Senate campaign.[7]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Avenatti

Just find it amusing that he worked on FISA-related stuff with Jonathan Turley.

More significant, while I knew he did opposition research for Dems, I did not know that he worked on 150 campaigns. That tells me that he has pretty deep expertise in digging up dirt, a useful skill for lawyers that is not taught in law school.

This must be fake news because we were told repeatedly in this forum that he seemed like such a well qualified candidate.

None of us could have seen this coming!

He def gives off a cocky vibe as to having dirt on people and daring them to refute it.

What's up w/ his latest tweet practically begging Hannity to let him on his show? He has to know Hannity either won't do it or will control the narrative.

Manafort is in pretty deep trouble and his lawyers gonna cost him $2M before he pleads. From what I can tell he's worth around -$10M (if his debt to Deripaska is legit). The redacted seems to involve uncharged criminal allegations. BTW, you don't want an FBI agent drafting and filing a 41-page affidavit for a no know warrant of your house, business, storage locker, and safe deposit box. That's 16 more pages than is permitted for a standard summary judgment motion.

John Oliver mentioned this last night - Ryan Zinke routinely claims in hearings he is a geologist (usually as a basis to give away more federal land), when in fact he has never worked with one and only majored in geology in college

Yeah, I loled at that. I mean, we all have a bottle of scotch in our desk drawer, but it's when you start getting into the second bottle of the day that questions need to be asked.

Zinke was way before my time, but when I was at Oregon football players had to go to class but had tutors who would do all their assignments. I doubt it was any harder for Zinke to pass his classes.

On the other hand, he was on the team that tied Oregon State 0-0. The Ducks sucked enough back then they might have had standards.

Zinke's major was "rocks for jocks".

[Not slamming geology, as it's often a solid scientific major, but sometimes, well, not so much.]

This is what it was called at Alabama when I was there, so I signed up thinking it would be a chill way to satisfy one of my science pre reqs. It was not an easy A by any stretch. Our very first lab exam consisted of a blank sheet of paper numbered 1-100 and a box on the table in front of us containing 100 rocks. The test was to identify each rock. I got about 25 of them correct and dropped the course when we got our grades the next class.

i'd guess that scholarship football players probably had a slightly easier time.

but i understand what you mean, i almost failed "independent study-world art" because i showed up to the final and it had 20 paintings/sculptures and said name the piece/artist/period/and 1 historical fact from that period. i think the professor just passed me because she saw i was a graduating senior.

I wish they'd stop putting all the collusion in black. Manafort's new nickname should be Captain Redacted.

I'm guessing Halperin is not on the show anymore. Is the other buffoon?

The election season was infuriating to watch real time. Just people who parrot the empty wisdom of 90s era pundits about diners and "momentum" and whatever other bs. It was cool to see some of the behind the scenes of the events, but man there was very little critical analysis.

Seeks like a pretty understated watch. What's the problem? That it's effeminate? That it's gold?

( I'm in the "all watches are dumb" camp)
