nearly every form of birth control takes effect wayyy before a zygote is created, so the "sanctity of human life" argument is a non-starter

there is zero justification for this

even the "we don't want to pay for people to have sex" argument is hopeless given the social and financial costs associated with unwanted pregnancies
10-23-2017 , 12:17 PM
when did the religious crazies first come up with God hates birth control? it is so bizarre.

Whenever someone decided they can use this issue to control women.

Genesis 38:9-10

Onan ... wasted his seed on the ground ... what he did was displeasing in the sight of the LORD; so He took his life also.…

- interpreted to mean that any ejaculation that knowingly did not have a chance of conception was sinful. Sodomy, masturbation, and contraceptives all captured.

Also ties well into the anti-materialistic neo-Platonism of the Church Fathers (ie, Augustine): physical pleasure = sin, etc.

You're mistaken in thinking there's some kind of logic that designates a line and that line can't move

Quote:
But not everyone agrees, because of how IUDs function. Most of the time an IUD prevents sperm from meeting an egg, and therefore prevents pregnancy. But if the egg and sperm do meet, the IUD keeps that embryo from planting itself in the uterus. In those cases, an IUD would prevent a fertilized egg from developing into a person.

"This crosses a line," says Republican Kevin Lundberg, who chairs the Senate Health Committee in Colorado. In Lundberg's view, an IUD can count as an abortion, and this makes it impossible for a program that funds IUDs to receive state funding. "The state constitution says no direct or indirect funding from the state shall go towards abortion," Lundberg says.

Any minute now we'll hear about how vital it is that insurance not be forced to cover Viagra for men who're married to women who're post menopause or infertile.

Can't waste that seed gents! Plus getting off will only enable you to impregnate a fertile woman you're not married too and sin some more!

The State Department has reportedly revoked a visa for British citizen Bill Browder, a hedge-fund manager-turned human-rights activist responsible for the Magnitsky Act. The 2012 U.S. law is aimed at punishing Russian officials believed responsible for the death in a Moscow prison of Sergei Magnitsky, who was allegedly beaten and denied medical care.

The canceling of Browder's visa came on the same day that the Kremlin issued yet another international arrest warrant for him via Interpol.
hummm. I'm guessing it's just a bureaucratic snafu. Probably has the diffusion alerts set to trigger revoking someone's passport, but seems to be a flaw in the US system if true. Otherwise it means they did it on purpose...

The lord shouldn't really have been watching imo - does this mean that watching porn is ok for the god-botherers?

I'm sure the fact that the latest round of Russian sanctions haven't been implemented by Trump is a similar bureaucratic snafu. Nothin to see here.

(Why the press isn't asking about those sanctions on a continuous loop remains a mystery to me)

Comey tweeted an image of himself standing alone, along the roadside in Iowa, writing, "On the road home. Gotta get back to writing. Will try to tweet in useful ways.

At least some of the corps that own them will stand to make some serious coin from weak/non-existant sanctions.

So pretty much anything Congress passes is up to the President to execute, at his leisure, with zero consequences if he fails to do so?

This seems like a leak.

I certainly hope he was able to stop by a diner or two to talk to some of the locals. Always good to keep your ear to the ground.

On an unrelated note, are there any reasonable arguments for the continued existence of the United States?

yeah, that should be a huge story. His craziness partly by design and partly because he's crazy distracts the media. I guess they're happy to play along for the ratings.

Mueller Now Investigating Democratic Lobbyist Tony Podesta

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...odesta-n812776

I'm sure this is all Trumpers will talk about for awhile now. Go back to saying Mueller is the best, and gonna take down the dirty murdering democrats etc.

Obviously I'm good with him taking down any corruption. Also might be a great move to get the Republicans to speak positively about him again instead of smearing him constantly, before he drops the hammer.

Well, it saves Canada having to deal with that whole Mexican-border thing. That's about it, though.
