It was a good episode that. The Original Star Trek was excellent at building a story around philosophical questions.

In terms of federal employees starting to miss their paychecks, I'm pretty sure that the essential employees are going to be extra screwed. If you're furloughed you can at least file for unemployment, but if you're essential I don't think you can - as you're not unemployed, you're just having your paycheck delayed.

"Unfortunately, the President just got up and walked out," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said. "He asked Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi, 'Will you agree to my wall?' She said no. And he just got up and said, 'Then we have nothing to discuss,' and he just walked out. Again, we saw a temper tantrum because he couldn't get his way, and he just walked out of the meeting."

A source familiar with what happened inside the room said Trump ended the meeting by standing up and announcing "bye bye" before turning and walking out.
As Democrats repeatedly told the President to open the government and deal with the border security fight after, the President continued to reject them as unwilling to have an actual negotiation, another source said.

Schumer then asked Trump, "Why won't you open the government and stop hurting people?"

Trump responded bluntly, "Because then you won't give me what I want."

My guess is the DACA deal happens. Not sure if I'd still do that if I'm Pelosi/Schumer, but whatever I'm sure they will.

If he gives in he loses

If he is willing to accept lets say 3.5 billion instead of 5.7 billion it shows he can compromise. Chuck and Nancy think the best plan is to not compromise

The longer this goes on i think public support shifts to trump

After last night and as this proceeds any deal about anything not tied to reopening the government is a bad move for democrats.

Trump can agree to all sorts of things but the senate wonít do it is pointless and just makes the Democrats look bad. They need to hammer on only focusing on reopening the government and NOTHING else until that is done.

Things are about to get much worse for Trump and democrats need to push harder on the shutdown and stop engaging in this negotiating other things nonsense.

Lol no. Only if the democrats keep failing on messaging and engaging on border security or entertaining any discussions about anything but specifically ending the shutdown.

Rosenstein Plans to Stay Until Mueller Submits a Report
A source close to Rosenstein said he intends to stay on until Mueller submits a report to the Justice Department on the Russian meddling investigation, NBC News reported. The source said that would mean Rosenstein would remain until early March.

Several legal sources have said they expect the Mueller team to submit its report by mid-to-late February, although they said that timeline could change based on unforeseen investigative developments.

"I am taking your family hostage. I will free them for $100 million"

"No, but what about $50 million?"

"Okay, deal! This shows I am a reasonable person capable of compromise. Also public support would have shifted towards me the longer I held your family hostage."

- what POGgers actually believe

You can't just divide an unreasonable offer by 2 and call it a compromise.

You don't think it's a bit odd that the dollar amount is arbitrary? Like if this were Obamacare, you would move different parts around to get different dollar amounts. Should people have more or less subsidies? How well or how poorly should insurance companies be compensated? How what percentage above the poverty line should the Medicaid expansion cover? Etc. Politicians would then move that up or down and change the final dollar amount.

With Trump it's just Calvinball with numbers. What does 3.5 billion mean vs 5.7 billion? How many miles of wall, what kind of wall for how much? No one knows. Because the dollar amount is just some arbitrary number to give Trump a win, not some kind of concrete policy proposal.
