if anyone irl asks me what trump's speech said i'll tell them he gave an impassioned speech calling for unity to back his desire to build an interstate high speed rail system. and that he spoke at length about how in europe and japan and china they've had high speed rail for decades and the people love it, and he's such a great builder that only he could make this happen and that we should call our senators and representatives and ask them to support this project.

They need to get people with passion to give these speeches. Compare the way AOC spoke on Maddow to the stilted-robotic delivery of Schumer and Pelosi. At least they ended on a high note though.

My biggest issue is everyone has allowed the shutdown to become about the wall and border security and not about Trump refusing to run the government.

The government shutdown has nothing to do with a wall.

Democrats should all be saying it is pointless to discuss border security or anything else when the federal government is shutdown. Once the President stops blocking the federal government from opening we can discuss a number of issues, including border security.
