The President wants time because he's likely saying there's an issue that may be worthy of a "National Emergency". The networks likely realize that this is BS but are reluctantly giving him the time for the kinds of reasons that Stelter mentioned.

The networks gain nothing by carrying this. It's not a regular prime time show, so ratings are a non-issue, especially when you consider that multiple outlets are carrying it. There may be a downside to not carrying the speech...like complaints from deplorables, but it is highly likely that the networks would much rather carry their usual primetime programming that they're spending their money on.

KING: Well, yeah, there's plenty of dirt. It's coming from West Coast, too, and a lot of other places, besides. This is the most dirt we've ever seen.

Another factor here is that the hosts and their staffs, even at FOX News, are ticked off when their shows are pulled last minute to make airtime for the Pres.

My three least favorite smells are retained tampon, empyema (lung abscess) and pilinoidal cyst crud (closest I've ever come to puking in my mask.) That stuff looks worse.

Raise your hand if you actually think a single network will refuse to air this disgrace

Come on, we know how this goes

“Are Democrats overplaying their hand calling the president a liar!!?!?!!”

So let's say Trump declares a National Emergency tomorrow night and orders DoD to start building the wall. Let's play this out...

California and New Mexico (border states, Dem gov, Dem AG) sue immediately, right? I assume they would have standing?

US House sues immediately, right? Dems control it and he'd be usurping their power of the purse.

I assume California leads the charge in the Ninth Circuit, and New Mexico might wait a day or two to allow that. Ninth Circuit likely immediately orders Trump to stop while the courts hear the case. I would imagine it would then be fast tracked to SCOTUS?

My guess, and maybe I'm being really naive here, would be that Roberts would choose the case that makes it the easiest to rule against Trump with the least partisanship, because he cares about his legacy and the court's standing in the eyes of the American public. My guess is that either 6 or 7 justices would rule against Trump (Liberals, Roberts, Alito and/or Gorsuch). But again, maybe I'm being really naive?

The thing is, I could easily see Trump pulling an Andrew Jackson and telling the Supreme Court to go ahead and try to enforce their ruling, then ordering DoD again to build the wall. From there, the chaos would be insane.

Lol at Alito ever ruling against Trump

Come on bro

Also Trump is a little *****, he's gonna back down. Don't you guys realize that by now? He doesn't have the stones to defy everything and just do whatever.

They already prosecute these people.

In the summer of 2017, eight volunteers were charged with federal misdemeanors related to No More Deaths providing humanitarian aid in this area.

On 17 January, No More Deaths released a report documenting the systematic destruction by border patrol of water and food supplies left in the desert for migrants. Over a nearly four-year period, 3,856 gallons of water had been destroyed. The report linked to video showing border patrol kicking over gallons and pouring them out onto the ground.

Hours after the report was released, Scott Warren, a volunteer with No More Deaths, was arrested and charged with a felony for harboring migrants after Border Patrol allegedly witnessed him giving food and water to two migrants in the west desert near Cabeza Prieta.

The National Emergency should really be met with the massive protest that people have been thinking might happen if Trump closes the investigation.

While I agree he feeds off the attention, I worry that if we ignore the literally insane **** he says we're at risk of giving him even more power. If he's just allowed to commandeer network TV for 30 minutes to say "Mexicans are invading our country, we have to build a wall to stop them from bringing crime and drugs into the United states!" with no response calling him a ****ing idiot and pointing out that everything he says is a lie it could lead to something much worse than his ego being well-fed.

On one hand, sure.

On the other, think about Hitler declaring an emergency after the Reichstag Fire or whatever and being like "Hitler gonna Hitler, just ignore him". Trump doesn't go away if you ignore him, the man has actual power, and he intends to use it to do real things.

Wallace would almost certainly be a ****ty president.

Wallace would unquestionably be better than Trump.

These are not contradictory statements.

The White House has decided the IRS can issue tax refunds after all. But, presumably, they still can’t pay the people who actually issue the refunds.

LOL the thought of tax refunds being an essential service.

Wallace would be a terrible president. Being a better president than Trump means zero

I'm pretty sure most of the forum would take you over Trump, too.

Reflect on that.
