"Senator Elizabeth Warren on Friday called for the Democratic-led House of Representatives to begin impeachment proceedings against President Trump, making her the most prominent Democrat to move toward ousting the president over evidence from the special counsel’s investigation that Mr. Trump attempted to undermine that inquiry.

Ms. Warren, who is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination to face Mr. Trump in 2020, laid out her arguments in a multi-tweet thread, saying the report documented efforts by Russia to elect Mr. Trump and “Donald Trump welcomed the help.” Ms. Warren said “once elected, Donald Trump obstructed the investigation into that attack.”

Democratic leaders are sharply divided on whether to pursue an impeachment effort against Mr. Trump, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and several presidential candidates uneasy about a Democratic-led impeachment attempt and preferring to let voters judge Mr. Trump in the 2020 election.

Democrats are mindful that the Republican-led impeachment of President Bill Clinton in the late 1990s was a political boomerang on the G.O.P. that contributed to the party suffering deep losses.

But some progressives are appalled at the prospect that Democrats would turn a blind eye to what they believe is criminality in the Oval Office, even if it may complicate their electoral prospects next year.

Ms. Warren’s call for impeachment comes as she is laboring to stand out in a sprawling Democratic field and is looking for opportunities to create contrasts with her rivals in the primary.

Her comments stood in contrast to much of the rest of the Democratic field, as several other candidates for president have treaded carefully around the impeachment question since the Mueller report was released."

what were the DEEP losses suffered in the 2000 election?

they won the presidency, lost 1 house seat, and 4 senate seats(most of which were in blue states if i remember correctly)?

if the democrats want to have any credibility with their base and the left of center people they have to initiate impeachment proceedings..

i dont believe impeachment doesn't get anything politically. i also believe trumps base will mad max rush the voting booth anyway. that group historically ALWAYS votes.

its the dem base support that sometimes doesn't and needs to be rallied.

as for the merits, ask any prosecutor, all of us have convicted someone of obstruction on FAR less than what trump has done according to mueller.

This is completely correct. Amazing that the liberal TV commentators seem to miss it. (Same with the "courageous" underlings who disobeyed orders.)

The reporters fall for these statements 100% of the time. Only lawyers on the news panels ever push back, and that's like 50% of the time.

I've seen multiple tv reporters of the chuck todd variety (though he's better than most), misuse "executive privilege" six ways to Sunday. They should just read the US v. Nixon decision on air, which would actually be a way of reporting relevant news.

It seems as though Prof Dershowitz vehemently disagrees with the learned legal opinions being espoused here on 2+2. It seems as though he believes there is a very large difference between A President exercising his Constitutional authority to hire and fire within the Executive branch and some shmoo on the street.
