Golf’s a great game that has been enjoyed long, long before republicans/democrats or even the USA existed.

The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency

Thursday’s report is just going to really upset me and for my own mental health I need to check out for a while. I fought hard and I know this is what they want, but I can’t do it anymore. I won’t be following the thread for a while and appreciate everything everyone’s done here the last few years.

The complete and total destruction of our democracy is appalling to me. What constantly gets me is how little other people are aware of and how little they care.

It’ll take some big disaster to wake people up. If the economy were bad there’d be riots in the streets (i’d hope). That’s what really saddens me about this country. The awvals of the world being totally okay genociding some browns as long as they get a few extra bucks a paycheck. Or the inso’s of the world that seem to take genuine delight in it as long as it upsets the soyboy cucks. It seriously makes me nauseous to think about the scope of it and how many genuinely ****ty people exist in this country.

So, sorry. It’ll hopefully just be a month or two but I honestly don’t know.

In closing, get ****ed awval and inso and anyone else that voted for this clown. Burn in hell forever and I truly mean it.

I'm not saying they suck, I'm just defending golf. It's an awesome sport. Over the last 20 years it's become increasingly accessible to the working and middle class (thanks Tiger!) and we've seen it progress a lot in terms of social equality, although it still has a ways to go.

It can be complicated to be a liberal golf fan who thinks deeply on social justice, but it's not impossible. I can love Augusta National the course and loathe what ANGC has stood for socially, while loving the Masters tournament... And ANGC has really improved the last few years in trying to grow the women's game and amateur golf around the world.

From a standpoint of being a fan, I find it thrilling to watch the best players deal with immense pressure over the course of 2-4 hours, with nowhere to hide. There's no helmet to hide behind, no pads to conceal slumping shoulders. For most, there are no shades to hide tears - of joy or sorrow. There is also no 7 foot center, or 300 pound lineman standing in their way. It's their mind and body executing, a battle as much with their own self as against anyone else. It's amazing! At the Masters in particular, you know exactly when the pressure is coming because you can get to know the course so well. Then there is the history remembered at the greatest courses. The great shots hit by great champions.

Golf is also a sport you can play your whole life, and it is challenging and enjoyable no matter how good or bad you are. An amateur weekend golfer can easily be better at 50 than 20 or 30, which is awesome. Because a 25 year old can play with a 70 year old, it ties generations together. Parents and kids bond over it. It teaches you a lot about morals, and puts a high value on honesty and honor. You call penalties on yourself, you play it as it lies, you shake hands after the last hole.*

* Unless you're the POTUS, and every golfer who votes for him should be ashamed. Honestly to anyone who has ever golfed, the stories about him golfing should be disqualifying in and of themselves. They demonstrate his horrible character and complete lack of regard for others. If I was totally clueless as to his politics, and saw him kick a ball into the fairway and drive his cart right up to the green, I'd already know all I needed to know. You want to measure someone's character in four hours? Go play a round of golf. You'll see him or her in moments of triumph, dejection and frustration, and get a good idea of their moral compass.
tldr;

I'm sure you're not taking my shots at golf as serious shots at you or other golfers. Of course I do think golf is particularly bad in a lot of ways and golfers generally annoying on average and I think it's incredibly boring, but to each their own.

My handicap deteriorated from 7 to 12 between the ages of 18 and 28 and has stayed there for almost 10 years since.

There's really no benefit to any of us staying super involved with everything, the Senate is protecting Trump and no matter how much awful **** comes out in the redacted report they're going to keep protecting him.

Nothing is going to come out. Jmakin is right. Thursday will just be another notch in our "lets destroy our democracy" belt.

Good luck J. Keep fighting the good fight even if it isnt here.

Re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency

I’m not even going to follow the report release or headlines or media hot takes - I’ve finally learned.

It’s this simple: Bill Barr isn’t going to release anything that would actually hurt the president, end of story.

The only way this nightmare ends is winning elections. That’s it.

Yeah; Barr is 100% in Trump’s court

Elections are what matter

Beyond that, the only hope is state investigations like NY looking into dissolving the Trump Org but trying to get any evidence or have anybody fulfill a subpoena is gonna be very difficult without years of court battle, which brings us back to next year’s election again as the remedy

Not new, but on topic:

Bill Barr To Become Caporegime With Own Family Within Trump Crime Family
Daughter and son-in-law to take key positions protecting Trump from ever facing justice.

Like, the only reason Nixon got booted was that he tried to put in a loyal partisan hack as AG and Congress said “nope.” Trump did this and succeeded, with members of the opposition party completely on board.

And don’t say Nixon went down because there were tapes. We’ve got plenty of tape on Trump.

How is Barr going to ensure that Mueller and his team of killers play along with his scheme?

I think the Watergate tapes definitely moved the needle, but I think Dave Weigel has a correct take: that the working model for presidential scandals should be Iran-Contra and Whitewater and not Watergate. In both cases the POTUS very clearly committed impeachable offenses but still stayed in office because they were able to work the refs and delegitimize the investigation.

I think without the Watergate tape, Nixon would have pulled a Reagan “I don’t recall” play and would have had enough plausible deniability to stay in office.
