Muslim in position of power: She's saying things I don't like. I want to kill her.

Muslim off the grid: Holy ****! She probably laid low to plan a terrorist attack with her Muslim friends in ISIS. I want to kill her.

She's committed to this for the long run. Nothing she can do will stop the threats and hate. ****ing Hillary hasn't been relevant in politics since the election and those dumb ****s are still chanting to lock her up.

Too many people have the idea that deplorables aren't bad people because they believe people are inherently good. After all, they love their kids, put food on the table, and spend holidays with their families. There's no way they can be bad people if they do those things. They're simply misguided by fake news manipulating their insecurities for political gain. If somebody could reach out to them, maybe they'll change their mind.

I get that sort of wishful thinking. It's hard to acknowledge that over 40% of Americans are irredeemable *******s who will never change their minds if you believe that your country can become a better place. It's doubly difficult if you have close family members that fall into that 40% like I and countless others do. To give up on the 40% is to condemn some of your own family. It creates cognitive dissonance by making us ponder questions like, "How can the people who have given me life and raised me to be the person I am today believe such horrible things?" I honestly don't know the answer to that question and just thinking about it troubles me.

Sure it does. And it should. How does one reconcile the fact that not only are there simply bad people in the world, but that the number who will gleefully and enthusiastically engage in hatred and cruelty is at a mass far larger than you could have ever expected?

I dont know man. I have generally believed in the overall goodness of people. I simply dont anymore. Not on an overall level. These people arent just cruel out of some selfish, NIMBY, got mine **** yall desire. They enjoy it. The cruelty is the point. They revel in the misery of "the other." They see the children separated from their families, locked in cages, and they smile and say "good, serves them right for trying to come into MY country."

I dont want to hate, and yet I do. They make me physically ill and I know I work with or talk to or encounter people like them every day. I hate them not for what they are, but for what they CHOOSE to be.
