White House proposed releasing immigrant detainees in sanctuary cities, targeting political foes

lol, wow

Quote:
White House officials have tried to pressure U.S. immigration authorities to release detainees onto the streets of “sanctuary cities” to retaliate against President Trump’s political adversaries, according to Department of Homeland Security officials and email messages reviewed by The Washington Post.

Trump administration officials have proposed transporting detained immigrants to sanctuary cities at least twice in the past six months — once in November, as a migrant caravan approached the U.S. southern border, and again in February, amid a standoff with Democrats over funding for Trump’s border wall.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s district in San Francisco was among those the White House wanted to target, according to DHS officials. The administration also considered releasing detainees in other Democratic strongholds.

"These detainees are animals, they're criminals, they're rapists, they're murderers"
"...and we should dump them all over liberal cities"
04-11-2019 , 08:24 PM
according to them, from their perspective, they're sending murderers loose on the streets. so they should be charged with accessory to conspiracy to commit 3rd degree murder. lock them up.

Snap bet my life savings trump couldn’t describe what metric he is talking about when he says jobless claims at record low.
04-11-2019 , 08:56 PM
releasing dirty immigrants like a contagion against your political enemies, cool cool, totally normal and not dangerous mentality there

As much as this is revealing about his petty, vindictive nature and disregard for rule of law, like, fine. We'll take them rather than leaving them in cages. Please, give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.

It really would be better for all involved.

I don't know if this is good or bad, but them proposing that shows that, as opposed to political opportunists or even just cultural fascists, they are 100% the absolute morons who think that there are no-go zones all over the place and most of the asylum seekers are gang members.

Releasing them into sanctuary cities would be ****ing awesome. It would be celebration.

Nancy and Chuck should take him up on his offer.

Go right ahead and lay down any time you'd like to, Mr. President. It certainly does sound like a comfortable bed!

Yeah, this is such a golden opportunity for the Dems running for 2020... but especially Buttigieg as a mayor. If I was his speechwriter/campaign manager, I'd be doing my best to get him in front of as big of a crowd of possible with as many cameras as possible, and make sure we had HD footage from 3-4 angles include crowd reactions... then, during his stump speech... Or during a Q and A town hall style, when the question popped up (and I'd make sure it did obviously)...

"You all may have heard that President Trump was trying to get DHS to 'dump' undocumented immigrants who couldn't be detained into sanctuary cities to 'punish' Democrats and liberals. Well, while South Bend is not a sanctuary city, as a mayor I do know a thing or two about running a city and taking in and resettling immigrants or refugees. I know about growing a city and creating opportunities for long-time residents and newcomers alike...

I know that immigrants make our communities safer, immigrants make our communities stronger, and immigrants add to the fabric of our communities and cultures. They can make the day-to-day experience of living life richer and more fulfilling, and we can do the same for them.

Just as importantly, they're hard workers, determined to build their American Dreams from the ground up... So when this president says he wants to 'dump' immigrants in liberal cities to punish them? Well this mayor would say, 'Thank you, Mr. President... This is a blessing for our city!' And to the immigrants, 'Welcome to America! I just know you're going to live it here...' Or, 'Bienvinidos a los Estados Unidos,' or... (proceed to rattle off some of his many languages).

Because it's not a liberal or a conservative idea to welcome immigrants, it's an American idea... So if the president thinks he's going to "punish" us with immigrants, he's got another think coming, because we will proudly take in the tired and the poor... While they may be his wretched refuse... they're our huddled masses yearning to breathe free!"

Something like that would go viral so quickly, get so much free media, and resonate so much with the base that he'd probably snag 5 points in the polls - which is huge for where he's at... And you could cut it into one hell of an online campaign ad. Picture the style of Bernie's 'America' ad, with Pete's speech cut up with shots of scenery around America, people welcoming immigrants, immigrants opening businesses, highly successful/famous immigrants, etc... Drop some lower third IDs including their name, company they started, number of jobs created, etc...

Is 500 really your cutoff, though? Because you've suggested that other people--with far more than 500 posts--either shouldn't post or shouldn't be allowed to post. Your mewling, that is to say, doesn't seem to be necessarily linked to the "offending" poster's post-count.

I think you're way overestimating the American electorate here. Huge chance this would backfire bigly.

Has Fox issued any kind of retraction for that poll graphic or Lou Dobbs spending his show gushing about it?
