Speaking of which, McConnell is not getting NEARLY enough hate for this shutdown. He is as much to blame as Trump is.

I guess it's the old question of who gets blamed more, the person doing the bad thing or the people enabling it? Him and the rest of the GOP are all enablers. But yeah he has basically escaped any reasonable amount of scrutiny. I guess the narrative of "Trump vs Democrats" is better than "Trump with the aid of the GOP vs the democrats"

McConnell is the most evil person in this story. Trump is too stupid to grasp the harm he causes, McConnell full on DGAF

It’s not that I don’t have contempt for McConnell, it’s just that his evil is an uninteresting constant. He’s one of the absolute worst guys ever, but there is zero point giving him attention.

I think one reason Trump is not going to Florida is the secret service is not being paid and he is super paranoid about traveling with secret service agents who are not being paid.

Sure his narcissism makes him believe others would give their life for his without compensation but even his pea brain knows that becomes a dicier proposition, especially when traveling. He worries bigly about being attacked.

That's the point of the GOP really though. They're entire brand is being the bad guys and standing in the way of anything good that people want.

I heard a comedian who characterized it like this, "They're the people who years from now are riding in a car with their grandchildren and they say to them, 'See that empty field over there? Well many years ago people wanted to build a playground on that field and it was your grandpa who stopped them.'"

That's 100% the attitude of the current Rep party. They're all like, "OMG the Dems want to give people health care??? We MUST stop them!"

Being evil is a feature, not a bug.

Also I don't think you understand how unlikely this to happen and how much it would destroy Trump with his base. Chiefsplanet would absolutely explode. Ann Coulter would lose her mind and Rush et al would follow.

Here's the thing - they know the Wall is bull**** and $5B would be a symbolic amount leading to nothing. The base might not all know this - but the rabble rousers in the derposphere do. So now you're trading something very real, and a gigantic win for the Dems, for $5B of symbolic BS. It's calling their bluff basically.
I don't think so. The wall is currently Trump's white whale. He shouldn't be able to get it for some obscure policy item that only effects some browns that literally no one in his base is ever even going to see, let alone meet. Not to mention that two years from now they'll be falling all over themselves trying to explain how DACA was really something Trump wanted all along and he tricked the Dems into proposing for his wall.

Nah, screw that. If he wants the wall that bad he should have to give up something that means as much to him as the wall. If I were Pelosi I'd be like, "sure you can have your wall. After you resign the Presidency and delete your Twitter account. Do that and you get your $5B for the wall."
01-05-2019 , 04:09 PM
Except he doesn’t actually want the wall; he wants his base to continue praising him and voting for him and getting the wall helps with that...him resigning for wall money doesn’t give him what he wants

trump wouldn't resign if it meant permanent world peace
01-05-2019 , 04:15 PM
I'm 100% sure Trump doesn't care about the wall, but he was shook by people like Ingraham being willing to dump him if he walks back on it.

Trump will only resign if he's sure it saves him from prison.

Pretty much every victory you have claimed in impacting the behavior of businesses has been a trick on your simple mind. Jobs leaving, jobs staying, jobs cut, jobs saved. All fake.

Scanning Breitbart, you have to get to the 36th story link before there are any stories about the government shutdown at all.
01-05-2019 , 05:30 PM
Breitbart is like the nail in the coffin for believing in any significant group of intelligent-good-faith conservatives. I've heard people who really should know better talk about it as if it were legit. Even before you get to the headlines about a welfare fraud case, the crime fear-mongering, the misrepresentation of the yellow-vest protests, etc. the presentation just screams idiotic tabloid.

And brietbart is just incrementally worse than fox news, which is wildly popular.

This. It’s such bull**** that a majority of Senators cannot bring legislation to the floor. Instead you have a disingenuous Machivallian ******* as a gatekeeper who says what gets a vote. Remember funding passed 100-0. It could easily override Trump’s veto.
01-05-2019 , 06:59 PM
If I am understanding all the moving parts correctly, the equilibrium solution would seem to be that a bill without the wall will eventually be passed but only after overriding a veto.
01-05-2019 , 07:51 PM
Trump would have to actually veto it, he's not real good at being the bad guy so it's probably a toss up as if he would actually veto the bill or try and have someone else veto it while he called the bill up and congratulated it on such a good victory.
01-05-2019 , 07:52 PM
Not sure he'd actually veto it. He might just do something like the time he signed the Russian sanctions bill.

Watching football today and looked up Jimmy Johnson on Wiki. He's 3 years older than Trump. Goddamn, he looks 20 years younger. Keep eating those cheeseburgers fatty.
