Working for the TSA has to be an absolutely awful job to begin with, not getting paid? GTFO

It is prime golfing season at his Florida properties, I don't think he can go another week without leaving for the links.

Yeah, the article said they were calling in sick basically to go work other gigs for money. Gotta imagine 90%+ of those workers are paycheck-to-paycheck.

Yea I'm surprised he's not in Florida. The weather this time of year is perfect. 70's and 80's, low humidity.

Making less than $20 an hour You have to be living paycheck to paycheck and one or two paychecks missed before your homeless.

Curious when the airports just don't have the staff and lines grow

The tweet Trump is fawning over:

https://twitter.com/SpoxDHS/status/1081334144980930560

Thanks, Tyler Q. Houlton, wouldn't want to confuse you with other Tyler Houltons out there.

So:
- CNN apparently did not ask TSA about this
- CNN apparently invented a "sick-out"
- CNN apparently said security has been impacted

Now, shall we click through and go to the tape?

Quote:
TSA spokesman Michael Bilello said the agency is "closely monitoring the situation" and that "screening wait times remain well within TSA standards," although that could change if the number of call outs increases.
Quote:
At New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, as many as 170 TSA employees have called out each day this week, [president of TSA employee union] Thomas tells CNN. Officers from a morning shift were required to work extra hours to cover the gaps.
Quote:
The mass call outs could inevitably mean air travel is less secure, especially as the shutdown enters its second week with no clear end to the political stalemate in sight.
Quote:
Union officials stress that the absences are not part of an organized action, but believe the number of people calling out will likely increase.
Oh, so they did ask TSA, they didn't say it's currently impacting security, and they did say it's not an organized thing while covering the fact that hundreds of people are calling out sick at a single airport.

Not that I should be surprised, but lol.

We should send in the CDC to investigate this mystery outbreak... oh wait...

And on top of that, it's a direct quote from a guy high up at TSA. It's not some random person talking.

Michael Bilello was appointed Assistant Administrator for Strategic Communications and Public Affairs in October of 2017.

A tweet that made me chuckle

"Quick, while the government is shut down, let's all switch to metric"

There's nothing really stopping him from going there.

Sure, the optics are horrendous, but when has ever he given a **** about that?

Low unemployment=many TSA workers will be looking for and finding new, better jobs.

BTW, I think Congress starts to freak out as soon as there start to be missed flights. I can't see it going more than 4 weeks.

Trump's negotiating style, trying to lock down the steering wheel in a game of chicken, only works under certain conditions. One condition where it doesn't work is if 13 GOP senators decide to turn the wheel themselves (though I believe they need McConnell to bring a vote to the floor; there may be some relevant exceptions).

I don't fly much so I don't have much skin in the game, but they should probably eliminate the TSA. Wake me up when September ends.

Obviously he knows how bad it will look to see video of him driving his cart over the greens and taking chip shots as hundreds of thousands of government workers are worrying about how to pay their mortgage. If he didn't care about the optics he sure as hell wouldn't be holed up in DC.

This. The TSA security at airports is nothing more than billion dollar theatre.

I think it's the opposite. He's staying in DC to show his supporters he's the one willing to negotiate. "I'm trying to get this wall done and the Dems won't even offer!"

I was at a Ch. 7/11 stay-relief calendar. The UST's office (in the same building) was closed, but the hearings went forward. But I know from experience that any request for a continuance would have been granted, or the judge would have sua sponte continued any matter being actively litigated.

Do you know if yours is a region-wide stay (like something requested by your region's UST, and generally granted by the courts), or a district-specific general order? Or something else?
