No doubt he’s a moron but even morons can be good at stuff and he’s an unbelievable swindler.

It's having a complete lack of ethics and morals that allowed him and his entire scamming family to be rich. I couldn't live with myself if I was cheating liar piece of filth like him. Most of the posters here are all burden with the same thing. The desire to do the right thing and be respected for it.

That is not a hot take, it’s a wrong take. A degree, even in the arts, does statistically lead to greater lifetime income. That is not at all dispelled.

Eh, people still do it because 18 year olds are dumb, even if they're smart.

My mom went on an extended riff about trumpian common sense the other night. I was trying to explain to her why him cancelling funding towards the northern triangle would actually lead to more refugees at the southern border.

I'm hoping trump's businessbro friends talk him down from actually closing the entire Mexican border, otherwise, gg US economy.

You think poor people aren't going to be hurt if we shoot the economy in the nuts?

In a long term shut down, yes, but I would expect this charade to be pretty short if it happens due to massively rustled rich people. Obviously I am against a shut down of more than a few days.

This. Tons of people think this way, I'd argue probably quite a big chunk of people with above average intelligence.

On the other hand, if he closes down the entire border for long enough, he'll cause a ton of damage to the economy, own it and it'll probably hurt him quite a bit in 2020.
That said, my guess is that his idea of closing the border is not letting immigrants in, but that he'll be more than happy to keep letting imported/exported goods flow.
He's more likely to line up the Marines along the border and order them to shoot on sight than to cut off all imports from Latin America.

I never know if I should take him seriously but not literally or vice-versa. Shutting off trade to Mexico would be an extinction-level event for the US economy, so I guess we're all banking on someone talking him down or lawsuits or something from stopping this.

Re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency
I do love how Republicans whine about how we can't afford a GND to preserve our ecosystem but then blithely toss out the idea of burning half a trillion dollars in trade because we don't want any more brown people coming over. How do we pay for a border shutdown? Why isn't anyone asking the Republican leadership the same question they ask of house freshman AOC? Someone on CNN needs to ask Mitch McConnell how he's planning on paying for a $500 billion embargo on Mexico.

$100B trade deficit with Mexico. No trade = we're $100B richer. duh.

Re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency
Mike Tirico hit the shot of his life, a 230-yard 3-wood towards an elevated green he couldn’t see. But he knew it was close. When he got to the putting green, however, Tirico’s ball was nowhere to be seen. Instead, it was 50ft left of the hole in a bunker. It made no sense – until Trump’s caddy caught up with him after the round.
Tirico was quoted as saying: “Trump’s caddy came up to me and said, ‘You know that shot you hit on the par 5? It was about 10ft from the hole. Trump threw it in the bunker. I watched him do it.’”

I think we should totally ban asylum. Rather than coming to the USA, stay in your own country and fix things. I have no problem with sending them a bunch of guns to help out if needed.

I think more asylum seekers should come here and you should move somewhere like Antarctica.

Are you including white Christians being persecuted in their countries in this, or do they get an exception to your no asylum policy?
(Which of course is stupid in a million other ways, but I figured I'd go straight to the heart of the matter.)

Let me guess. You have never moved from your hometown, or even neighborhood. You just stayed there and made opportunities for yourself and family because that’s where you were born.

Re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency
Illegal immigration could be stopped overnight. Simply fine and/or jail employers that hire illegal immigrants. The powers that be, SSA/IRS, know who these employers are because the illegal aliens use fake Social Security numbers.
The employers know that they can be fined/jailed for not paying FICA taxes for illegal aliens but there is no penalty for continuing to employ them.

And we do send the guns there. And the money that funds the drug cartels, and corruption.

I favor a generous work visa policy in industries such as agriculture, meat processing, construction, landscaping and food service that can't attract American workers . But I don't think you should be able to get residency based on a sob story.

You're wrong. There are plenty of people who work off the books. Plenty of employers and workers willing to break the law. I know your answer is that we need to be more of a police state.
Illegal immigration actually could be stopped overnight though.
Also, you are far worse for this country than asylum seekers or immigrants, legal or otherwise.
