Yup, they ran in 2018 on "Democrats want to take away your healthcare and we will protect it," so I expect that again in 2020.

It literally does not matter that they're trying to take it away the entire time. Nothing matters.

Canada now grounded all 737 MAX and banned them from their airspace, so it's just the US, Turkey and Brazil with home based airlines still operating 737 Max.

Boeing saw $24bn wiped off value yesterday. Then Trump starts tweeting about how complex planes are these days.

I doubt Trump's pulling the strings at the FAA but suspect $$ are the main reason that plane is still flying the US

EDIT: I see Trump managed to score a few points by now grounding the planes is the US

POTUS probably just waiting until he/his family/his friends/his Mar-a-Lago members unloaded their Boeing stock before causing it to go down even more. I'm sure it's also just a total coincidence that the Boeing CEO is a golfing buddy of Trump's.

LOL it's no coincidence that the only people supporting Boeing are the ones who have a financial incentive to do so.

It's nice that the US finally decided to ground them but when the choice was between doing the safe thing (grounding the planes) and trying to save Boeing some money, they dragged their feet as long as possible to save them a couple of bucks.

Leading from behind. Its our thing now. I was scheduled to fly on one next month, so this is good news for me. Just the thought that two of the same model crashed for no apparent reason within six months should be enough to make the choice to ground them.

I know this scandal is on the West Coast too, but the East Coast is way more dbaggy. The West Coast could never have either that level of Skull and Bones kind of stuff, nor could it be infested with Guidos or Insane Clown Possies.

Probably a great opportunity to load up on Boeing stock. The company isn't going anywhere, this is most likely going to be something like a software issue that will be easy (and cheap) to fix. They'll settle with the families as quickly and quietly as possible, maybe make a VP or two walk the plank. Essentially, their shares are on sale.

Did you see Rachel Maddow last night? She covered this.

Nope - staying in a casino in CC nv for reasons that don't matter - not watching TV.

Still think my basic point is valid. Boeing isn't going anywhere. Their only competitor is at present a total mess. They'll figure this out. 15 years ago I'd be buying (I'm pretty close to retirement, so basically totally in index funds now, although I do own a few hundred shares of BA - I assume I hold a bunch more in my index funds, and I'm fine with it. I hope they buy more)

OTOH, I'm a doc, and we're notorious for being ****ty investors and worse pilots. Might be a bad combination...

On MSNBC they're talking about the pardon power is a pure presidential power and that he doesn't need to sign anything, go through anything official etc, and that he could literally tweet out a pardon and that's that! How has Trump not accidentally pardoned a bunch of people already in his mindless ramblings or tweets?

Dunno if I ever posted this, but I have a friend who is a pilot and did instruction and he said doctors were the worst. They don't listen/always think they are right. And they aren't always right.

Re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency

If you already saw it I wasn't going to post what I remember Rachel Maddow saying on this. IIRC Boeing was aware of issues and concerns about its new plane's stabilization system (sensors and software). For some strange reason, several pilots had experienced difficulty after take-off when the automated system (attempted to) lowered the nose when the plane was trying to climb to cruising altitude.

Boeing engineers began looking into solutions months ago but work on that came to a screeching halt due to the government shut-down. They now think they may have a solution in the works. I think it involves utilizing information from more than one sensor and modifying how the software interacts with the sensors, limiting the amount that the nose can be lowered (to prevent crashes, duh). I think they said they hope to have a solution ready by next month.

Of course, it is beyond sad to think that the reprehensible government shut-down indirectly led to a plane crash in which hundreds of people perished.

Hard to understand why a corporation had to stop work on a potentially life-endangering bug because of the govt shutdown. Sounds like BS.

Unless they were trying to get info out of the FAA or something, but still sounds like bull****.
