Re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency

Miami is the absolute worst airport ever, followed closely by LaGuardia and O’Hare.

Re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency

I lived in Chicago for 10 years, and O'hare isn't bad as long as you're starting/finishing your trip there. The El takes you directly to the terminal, security lines are bad but not horrible, decent food options. You can get totally screwed by the weather, but that's a Chicago thing, not an O'hare thing. Changing planes there is a total ****show.

Phoenix is my least favorite - for some reason I run about 95% having to walk a half-mile in 8 minutes to catch my connector - about 5% of seating for what is needed, and dog food for choices. Add in the ambience, which is county prison decor. It sucks.

LAX is horrible, primarily becuase it's about a third of the size it needs to be.

Uh, OHare is absolutely awful. I have never seen an airport with worse food options, there are like 18 ****ing terminals and no trains, the seating is limited and dirty, no place to plug in electronics and it takes for ****ing ever to get into the city. AIDS

If possible when coming to LA use Long Beach or Burbank. I'm flying east this summer and was so happy that flights in/out of BUR were available, it's SO much easier and like 15 minutes from my house.

If your attitude toward food at the airport is anything other than "I need this to sustain myself so hopefully it won't be too offensively bad" - you're setting yourself up for failure imo.

Long Beach airport is good.

I don't have that much experience with airports other than LAX, Long Beach, Oakland and SFO - but if LAX is one of the worst, people complain way too much (I'm sure that's true). It's not that bad. The only significant problem with LAX imo is the traffic on your way in. It's not bad at all on the way out.

Re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency

Yeah once they let Uber/Lyft back in it's been a complete mess. Avoid on Thursday night, Friday morning, Sunday night, Monday morning. Sometimes that last half mile takes 30 minutes.

And what's awesome is there's literally no other way to get into the airport. Every public transportation option has to sit in the same traffic. Often buses/shuttles are worse than your own car or uber - because they don't cut across the airport to get to get 5,6,7. If you're in gate 7 or 8 and it's totally jammed, your best bet is to get out at gate 1 and walk across the middle part.

That's true about LAX - the traffic is so goddam insane that if they had uricorns crapping cupcakes in the terminals it would still suck.

Iím a fan of setting clocks back an hour in both spring and fall but no one agrees. The extra hour of sleep is always nice

If taking 30 minutes to drive half a mile is something you never want to experience, get out of LA. But, yeah, it's absurd that you can't park somewhere a mile or two out and take a train/express bus right into LAX unaffected by cars.

You live in Reno. You probably have to pop some blood pressure medication any time you don't make it though a stop light in one cycle. Luckily you are a doctor so you always have a pocket full of pills.

Singapore had a fitted carpet in huge part of the airport. Got to be a homer and say Helsinki.

The worst one must be Kiev or maybe Saigon. It has poor lighting to the point where it's almost dark and dirty, crowded toilets. In Saigon, nothing is on time.

Airport derail!

PDX is by far my favorite. Live closer to SeaTac but try to fly out of Portland whenever possible. Parking at PDX is so much easier.

10 minute drive to work, 8 minutes home at night. Rush hour lasts about 45 minutes, but I never see it, cause I work 4p-12mn.

I grew up in S Cal in the 1970's - back when the 405 wasn't a parking lot 23 1/2 hours a day. Back when Burbank airport was Lockheed airport. My high school mascot was an Indian. I'm old.

Yep. Different specialties (actually, a lot of differences) though. He's a much better poker player than me, from back when that was important.

Interesting take because Terminal 4 (mainly Southwest) at Sky Harbor is fantastic other than the parking situation. The food options are all version of local favorites and are generally way better than youíd find in most airports. Security lines are also typically not long.

The other two terminals are pretty awful though, I used to mainly fly Continental when I was long distance here and while I was lucky and got upgraded to first class a bunch (as a broke grad student), terminal 2 was pretty depressing back in those days.

Tucson Airport lacks food options but itís one of the easiest airports to get in and out of. We also donít do daylight savings in AZ, suck it rest of the country!

Re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency

With most major airports, I find a huge difference with the hub terminal (e.g., United at Newark or Delta in Detroit) vs. the other terminals (where every other airline has a handful of gates).

The hub terminals have become increasingly better in recent years while a lot of the other terminals seem like they haven't changed since the 70s.

And then there's super-special snowflake Kansas City - with 3 ring terminals (only 2 in use now).

TWA asked them to build it that way to become a hub, then they picked St. Louis anyway. Also it made a lot more sense before security checkpoints.

Ohare's the best airport I've eaten in, every other airport is too much fast food and nothing else for me. My spot is hidden in a corner in there though.

Best airports I have been to are Singapore and Hong Kong for sure. Seoul is supposed to be really nice as well. Worst is Manila, horrible.

I don't think there are any good airports in Australia. Melbourne sucks, it's 14 miles from the city and the transport options are taxis or buses that take an hour. I once paid more for a taxi to the city than I had for my flight from Adelaide.

It's just not a nightmare as awful as LaGuardia. Might be the worst airport I've ever been to by a landslide.

Your large airports in Europe aren't great either. London, Paris, and Rome have crap airports. It's when you're up around Scandinavia or for some reason, parts of East Asia that airports appear more appealing.
I once flew through LaGard and the term had 1 working toilet

It's like 45 minutes from the airport to the loop via the El. $2.50 I think.
