The other factor in all this is Trump hasn't been golfing or to Mar-a-Lago since the shutdown started. I bet every day he begs to go and his handlers have to pretty much tie him to the chair. No way that lasts 6 months.

DACA is worth it. Also it will never happen because it would piss off Ann Coulter even more than not getting a wall.

So throw it out there and if some miracle the Repubs call your bluff - be happy you got DACA and helped out a few 1000 (more than that right?) innocent people.

I have to think there are more than a few deplorables concerned about getting their tax returns.

The IRS will continue to process tax returns, regardless of the ongoing budget fight in Washington. However, when it comes to issuing refunds, that’s not going to happen until the government completely reopens.

Stop mailing Social Security checks when the govt shuts down and we’ll never have a shutdown again.

I just think they could do better than DACA. Lots of Reps support DACA, it's only the hard liners and the Fox crowd that are against it.

I mean, they have Trump over a barrel right now. They need to hammer him with it. Say they'll accept nothing short of a full immigration reform bill or some **** like that.

We've been trying to get some form of DACA done for 20 years or so. If this is somehow the magic bullet it's totally worth it.

Also I don't think you understand how unlikely this to happen and how much it would destroy Trump with his base. Chiefsplanet would absolutely explode. Ann Coulter would lose her mind and Rush et al would follow.

Here's the thing - they know the Wall is bull**** and $5B would be a symbolic amount leading to nothing. The base might not all know this - but the rabble rousers in the derposphere do. So now you're trading something very real, and a gigantic win for the Dems, for $5B of symbolic BS. It's calling their bluff basically.

I don't think it's well appreciated how huge and diverse the undocumented worker ecosystem is. There are the unskilled, uneducated, unconnected and desperate who get used, abused and robbed. There are the skilled who demand and get completely equal terms as somebody with papers. There are times when an exploitative employer suddenly learns that all of his workers come from one small town when they walk off the job en masse in protest. There are white collar workers with long careers based on forged documents.

But there's a reason those hardcores are the tail that wags the dog. If you lose them the party disintegrates.

I have to agree with rep here on DACA unless I am missing something. The courts are upholding it already. Why give $5b for a wall? Seems like the stupid ass democrat strategy we've been making fun and getting pissed at for the last few years imo.

So the Dems should work with the Rís to get sweeping immigration reform in exchange for

Checks notes:

A 30 foot, $25,000,000,000 wall to keep brown people out of the country

Thatís probably gonna work.

I had an undocumented Mexican housemate in college studying engineering. I think his SAT was 1500+/1600 and his brother had a 1600.

re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency

What is their angle with the term limits stuff? Remember this is the GOP and everything they do is in bad faith to consolidate power for themselves so I assume that they at least believe that it will be politically beneficial to themselves to institute term limits.

One thing I noticed is that it puts the Senate at an advantage over the house. Under their plan, Senators can serve for up to 12 years but Representatives can only serve for 6. Maybe equalize them both at 12 years? If there would legitimately be no partisan advantage for either side and that bringing in new blood to the federal government on a consistent basis would improve things, then it sounds like a good idea but I'm super skeptical of anything they do.

You guys don't understand the right-wing hivemind at all.

I don't think there's even a tiny chance Trump would accept DACA for $5B for the wall. But if he did it would destroy him with the base, drive a wedge between the base and moderates who more or less support DACA and don't care about the wall, AND do real good at the same time. Which is why IMO dems should at least be loudly and publicly floating it as an option. If nothing else to get moderates and the super-racist frothy base bickering with each other about it.

Just because courts are upholding something for now doesn't mean it will always be that way. It sucked being in online poker limbo for those few years between the UIGEA and Black Friday. Now imagine instead of losing online poker, you might be a senior in college, still worried you could deported at any moment to a country you never knew.

Of course the GOP is not going to trade these pipe dreams for the wall, but Trump is dumb enough to agree to it. The plan is to get Trump to agree to something that the GOP will never agree to and then hold a press conference undercutting them.

Another totally coherent briefing going on. Imagine thinking Trump is smart.

Also, just imagine being Mike Pence.

Giving 1 penny for the wall would be the one thing that would me to not vote in the 2020 election.
