You are full of ****.
There are so many people locked up because of trivial issues, the majority of them minorities. I used to see it all the time, young black kid on probation for some other petty felony charge they had to plea to, (or end being maxed out if they took it to trial and lost), ends up picked up for a misdemeanor pot charge and gets sentenced to years for the violation. It happens every single day.
Edit:
I remember one case specifically, it's one of many reasons I stopped practicing criminal law. A 22 year old kid, on felony probation for habitual DWLS, he had 3 Driving While Licence Suspended convictions within a 5 year span, was arrested for possession less than 20 grams of cannabis. The charge ended up getting thrown out, because the pot wasn't his and wasn't even on him, but the violation sent the guy to prison for 36 months. You don't even have to be convicted to violate, just being arrested or even having contact with police in some cases will do it in Florida. I know, lolFlorida.
