wrt to American political history, you guys just sound like you're arguing about semantics and/or nitty definitions of arbitrary timelines but i'll give this a shot: the current Republican Party is a result of 50-60 years of racist and/or disingenuous behavior. it started with Southern Strategy and has basically never wavered from that in principle. the only thing Trump did was amplify the microphone

ETA: social media has also basically taken off the launchpad from the time Trump announced his candidacy to now. social media has amplified EVERYTHING. so all the negative **** in the world is now in your face on a phone, pad, lap or desktop and psychologically you always remember the negative more than the positive on a one for one basis. it is really ****ing disturbing at this point
I have to admit I’m surprised that everyone seems to think trump is no different in degree, if not kind, from previous iterations of the GOP.

It’s making me second guess my position but I’ll try to defend it one last time. I’m open to being convinced I’m mistaken.

I’ve conceded earlier today that most of trumpism existed in the GOP for decades but I do think there are very significant differences in degree. Sure the GOP has been racist forever but the leaders of the party were not literally calling Neo-nazis good people, holding press conferences surrounded by skinheads, and openly advocating for excluding people from the country based on race and religion. All racism is bad but trumps out in the open advocacy is surely far more toxic.

As for differences in kind I just don’t think the previous iterations of the GOP were out to literally destroy the fabric of democracy by doing everything possible to divide the nation, eliminate the people’s faith in institutions, destroy the 4th estate, and actively disassemble constitutinal checks and balances. Sure the GOP has had some authoritarian streaks but trumps love of dictators and desire to be a literal king seems unique to me.

P.S. for the record I ignore rep unless he attacks me which he did today. I never respond to any of his posts otherwise because I simply don’t think there is any chance for real debate or for me to learn anything interesting.

What about the inauguration Bane speech?

What about when he sucked off Putin in Finland?

What about the Puerto Rico stuff where he talked about large bodies of water between us and Puerto Rico and that it was an island and how they are lazy?

What about the recent global warming interview where he said oceans are small and blabbed incoherently?

What about all the campaign rallies where he incited violence and suggested the 2nd amendment people kill Hillary?

Today is just another day imho.

Are those guys skinheads or is it just regular bald dudes?

If someone wants something more than you don't want it, and everything else is equal, he or she has a temporary edge over you because he will endure more pain to win. However that can be turned into an advantage if you abandon an out and out fight and instead go for a deal. Because if the other guy or girl wants something to an irrational extent, you can get them to do stuff far beyond what makes sense in return for what they want. Which means that it is you who win.

Apparently border patrol agents but if they aren’t actually skinheads the symbolism cannot be accidental.

Clovis, was it your New Year's resolution to be extra awful at posting in 2019?

If it were just Trump vs. dems we could probably get all sorts of liberal policies in exchange for the wall. Especially since Trump doesnt seem to care much about policy other than immigration. The senate GOP will never allow this though.

It took about a year too long, but I now scroll right past his tweets.

That’s my point. It can’t be an accident he ends up with all bald guys. It’s an obvious signal of white supremacy even if the guys are not literal card carrying skinheads.

Chicago Alderman Who Was Trump’s Tax Lawyer Faces Up To 20 Years In Prison

Quote:
One of the most powerful City Council members in Chicago history has been charged with attempted extortion for “corruptly soliciting business” for his private law firm, according to a federal complaint unsealed Thursday.

If convicted, Alderman Ed Burke could face up to 20 years in prison. The charge follows November raids of the Democrat’s offices at City Hall and in his Southwest Side ward.
Burke was his tax attorney for 12 years, you think he knows where some bodies are buried? I'm sure Drumpf has nothing to worry about here and this alderman won't give up anything to lessen his sentence.

More coal plants shut down in Trump’s first two years than in Obama’s entire first term

Quote:
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports that while 15 gigawatts of coal-fired plants were shut down in Obama’s first four years, Trump’s first two years have seen some 20 gigawatts retired (with more than two thirds of those occurring last year).

As a result, U.S. coal use dropped 4 percent in 2018 to a level not seen since 1979, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

oh yeah i agree with you, i'm just priming your pump bro. because trump both takes credit for **** that's been around and he plays ignorant with the white supremacists. coincidence equity is at an all-time low. i was just sort of playfully imagining what possible excuse he could have if someone straight asked him what that was all about

Dems should tell trump they’ll give him $5b for a wall and get rid of Obamacare and all he has to do is include universal healthcare and make all immigrants currently in the country permanent legal residents with a path to citizenship. He’d likely agree and you can leave it to him and republicans to fight about it. Throw in the Green New Deal language if you want to too.

CDL, are there any people alive today you wouldn't vote for over Warren?

They have him over the barrel, why let him up? Keep driving it home until he buckles, which he will.
