It’s a lie.

Just another reminder that a large segment of the public is quite dumb. Five percent of American adults said "I now approve of the man I didn't like two weeks ago during the shutdown he caused for no reason. He is still the same person who caused a shutdown for no reason, he hasn't apologized or shown any reflection on the matter, he just declared a national emergency for no reason, but now I like him."
Thing is that the news on Trump cycles so quickly that people can barely remember stories from a day ago, let alone two weeks ago. Even people who follow things closely forget or aren't even aware of a whole lot of news that went under the radar. You're bombarded with story after story every day so it's nearly impossible to focus on each one enough to retain the information.

Most of the country is either apathetic about politics or votes once every four years and doesn't think about it for the next four years. It's pretty much the way America looks at soccer. Every four years, they cheer for the US soccer team because they were told to do so ever since they were kids. When it's over, they say that soccer is for **** and real men play football. Pretty much everybody else doesn't even bother paying attention.

Your typical American may catch a headline in passing or overhear some conversation their co-workers are having but otherwise they keep their heads down and focus on other things. To be honest, I don't blame them. Most of what's happening in the world either doesn't directly affect them or does so in such an abstract way that it's nearly impossible for those people to detect it. Watching the news for those people is a masochistic activity. I mean I don't think there's ever been a time where I watched the news and walked away feeling happier than I did before watching it.

The overall approval is certainly a lie. However, the GOP approval rating is pretty consistent with previous numbers. I suspect that somebody in the administration told him what he wanted to hear and he immediately tweeted it without asking what the source was.

I'm also sure some people, the ones that want to like him and see him succeed, see those polls as a chance to signal to Trump that they liked something he did recently. "Oh you signed the compromise instead of shutting everything down again! Good boy!"

I guess this could actually work in a way, if Trump ever tried to figure out what caused the up- and downticks in approval, but of course he's an ignoramus so all he does is bask in the supposed adoration when it goes up, and scream fake news when it drops back down.

That Smollett story is crazy. Lol his story was so stupid. Yes officers they burned a cross on my moms lawn in kkk gear and maga hats beat me up and poured anthrax on my face and sent me letters it’s true. Phone records? Um. Uh. You really need those?
02-17-2019 , 12:56 PM
Why did he put people, in reference to his supporters in quotation marks?

His “people”

I don't remember how the whole thing went down when it was reported, but is there any chance he didn't expect it to become a full-on investigation? Like maybe he just wanted to tell a few friends and have someone snap a pic of him with the noose and bleach stains and think that it would make awesome headlines, without the cops getting involved?

This is not the reason. He certainly thinks of them that way, but this isn't the reason for the quotation marks.

No chance. He was on one of the most popular tv shows in the country. It was going to be a big story and he knew it. He called the cops on his “attackers”

Smollett can put all of this behind him simply by reciting the following statement: "I meant to say I WASN'T attacked by two racists on a Chicago street corner."
02-17-2019 , 01:43 PM
At this point I have to think the constant bragging about the **** poll numbers is simply a reminder to the spineless republicans that he owns their base and they should remember that when it’s time to deal with the emergency declaration or whatever other shenanigans he is up to currently.

The deplorables are never going to stop crowing about this Smollett jackass.

Seeing this morning's tweets attacking the press and tv shows, Tom White a fairly new aide breathlessly runs into Trump's office and tries to explain the concepts of Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Speech to Trump.

"That's total bull****, Tim. Where in the world did you ever come up with such ridiculous and offensive notions?"

"Ah, as you know Mr. President, Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Speech are the linchpins of our democracy."

"Jesus Christ you moron. Is that what they taught you in public school?"

"It's, um (clears throat nervously), in the Constitution."

"Not that one again, you idiot. Last week you tried to tell me I couldn't declare a national emergency to get funding for my Wall since only Congress has the "Power of the Purse" according to this imaginary "Constitution" of yours. But yesterday I got all the money I need to Finish the Wall (which, by the way, is almost done), a great big and beautiful Wall. The biggest and most beautiful WALL in the world. You know Israel and China have Walls. Mine will be much bigger. And San Antonio (a dump of a city if I've ever seen one) built a Wall and crime disappeared over night. Mexicans are too stupid to figure out ways around a Wall (imagine being that Stupid!!). Get out of here Tim and don't ever bother me again!"

"Yes Mr. President (walks away shaking his head wondering why he ever wanted to work in government)."

Everyone needs to come down like a ton of bricks on Smollett. This kind of thing does massive amounts of damage.

Fake attack orchestration kink shamer.

Actually I can see the SCOTUS or whoever ruling in favor of Trump on the emergency. Congress gave the president the power to declare emergencies based on an extremely vague set of guidelines. If congress is unhappy with that, they should repeal or change the law.

No it doesnt. It just gives deplorables an opportunity to spike the football, but ultimately affects nothing.
