re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency

Wait I'm turning 50. Should I get a shingles vaccine? I mean it sounds like a hilarious illness to get. But apparently reports from the field are that the symptoms does not mirror the innate humor of the name.

Other funny-sounding diseases:

rickets
lombago
rheumatism
scabies
restless leg syndrome
irritable bowel syndrome
empatigo
bursitis

I made a joke about restless leg syndrome, unfortunately in the presence of a sufferer. He said it feels like you're about to move your leg at all times. Not sure whether I should continue to make fun of it.

CDC says yes, you should get the shingles vaccine: https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd/shingles/index.html. I had chicken pox as a kid, then shingles in my 20's, but not too bad. A friend got it on his face in his late 40's, and that was ****ed up. I'm going to look into the vaccine, if I can remember to mention it to my doctor.

Add to the list of funny disorders/diseases: erectile dysfunction

re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency

Well, I haven't had the shingles vaccine yet - gonna be 64 in Oct. Probably need to get it.

In terms of why you need it repeatedly - like a lot of medical stuff, it's complicated. A lot of us grew up getting oral polio vaccines, which were supposed to give life long protection - but it was a live (attenuated) vaccine, and sometimes the live virus can morph back into its evil cousin and give you the disease you're hoping to be protected against. This became a BIG problem when trying to finally stamp out smallpox - if you vaccinate a buttload of people and one of them get the disease and travel somewhere, they can introduce the disease back into a population that was thought to be safe (and not, therefore, receiving the vaccine)

So live vaccines are for the most part out of fashion. The killed virus vaccines don't give you enough of an immune response to last forever, I understand. If we have any virologists hanging around, they can probably give a more accurate explanation.

In passing, shingles is miserable - very painful and if you have involvement of the nerve that serves your eye can lead to badness up to and including blindness. Even more entertaining, a small % of people get post-herpetic neuralgia - the pain of shingles that hangs around after the shingles is gone. Drives people crazy, or makes them miserable enough to kill themselves.

So, yeah. I'm gonna get that taken care of...

The lesson here is if you want to get an administration job you're not qualifed for, don't hire Melania.

Can confirm scabies are not fun. Got it from the old Las Vegas Hilton and had to rub ointment on the scabs on my dick for a couple of weeks.

This was what I had (I believe it was the trigeminal nerve, if that's the same nerve).

First symptom was a minor eye ache. Figured it was just a thing that would go away. The next day, it got really bad. At random intervals - could be every few seconds, could be every few minutes - it felt like someone was stabbing me in the back of the eye with a ball point pen. Stopped me in my tracks every time it happened.

The pain got worse. My wife took me to the eye doctor, as I couldn't drive because of it. No sores had developed yet, so he didn't diagnose shingles. It worsened over the next day or two, so I went back. I had one small sore that had appeared on my nose and the nurse/technician immediately knew what it was. Was given medication to try to help the pain (went to my primary care doc, too), but nothing helped.

Within another day or two, the right side of my face and head exploded with sores and swollen welts. I looked like the Toxic Avenger. For four days, I slept about an hour a day. My eye didn't hurt anymore, but I had a pounding headache non-stop, couldn't make it go away. It was the one time in my life I understood how people could be in so much pain that they wanted to die. I knew it would end, so obviously I didn't want to die, but it was that bad. Worst I have ever felt in my life.

After those four days, I could finally function a bit, meaning I could stand up and walk around the house a little. All told, it was about four weeks before I felt well enough to get on with my life.

One weird symptom was that it actually hurt to just lightly touch my hair. When I finally felt up to taking a shower, it was painful. Literally just touching a finger to my hair stung.

Looking back at my photos (I took some to show my parents), it was fall 2010, so I was only 34 years old. The scar on my cornea was I guess the result of a small sore on/in my eye or something. It was so small that it wasn't noticed in a follow-up appointment, I think, and ended up growing over a few years. One day I noticed my vision was kind of ****ed up and I could actually see the scar when I looked in the mirror. Fortunately, it's under control as long as the eye drop works. My vision will never be perfect even with glasses, though (if it stays as is, it's fine).

Vetting is what a normal administration does before nominating someone for a position so they don’t have to deal with stories like this...

Glad of the pony as I needed to read that twice to get it ... lol at Trump and words.

Threatening to release 800 ISIS fighters is something I'm sure US allies will be thrilled with.

re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency

From Trump's ridiculous speech:

"The military under Obama sucked and they didn't spend enough money." (We actually spent more than the next 25 countries combined or whatever)

"I saved the military because I got much more money from the military. It's pretty insane when you think about how much money they gave me. They don't even know what to do with it."

"I am going to use some of this money to build a pointless wall. We spend so much money on the military so why can't we spend a small about of this money building a wall?"

"I don't really have to declare a national emergency. I could just build the wall slowly over time but I want to do it more quickly."

---

I know that Trump is just a complete ****ing idiot but his ability to contradict himself multiple times per sentence is truly amazing. He is literally the worst type of human being
