I send my kids to Sunday school and Hebrew school and they will have Bar/Bat Mitzvahs (save the dates just went out for one of them), but at the same time, none of us really believe in god/religion. We're probably going to let our kids stop going to religious school after their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs. My son bought into the whole god thing initially, but he pretty quickly decided it didn't make sense.

It's kind of dumb, I know. I guess, like a lot of things we do in life, we're kind of doing it as an obligation, partly to not piss off our parents, partly because...I don't know. Judiasm is a bit different, as there is very much a cultural/community part that is separate from the religious part. And the nice thing is that my wife, whose family was completely unpracticing, has really enjoyed the community aspect of joining a synagogue. I really like our rabbi, too. Just chatted with him yesterday. And I appreciate our synagogue - it's extremely welcoming. It's even expressly pro-LGBTQ - there used to be something on the website about it, but I can't find it now. I know there's a flier about LGBTQ issues posted in the hallway at temple.
Dont secular jews make up a pretty large percentage of jewish people in the states? I think youre pretty normal amongst the "just doing it for tradition/family" crowd in the jewish community.

This is the norm in most of the developed world as far as I can tell. You actually see this with churches Korean churches, Japanese Shinto temples, and Chinese Daoist/Buddhist temples. Most people going aren't really religious at all.

I saw the same thing with Europeans going to church and Turks going to mosques when I visited. Most attendees just go because the religious centers are also social centers. From what I heard, for the most part, it's the same way with Hindi temples in India.

Personally I also know a lot of "non-practicing" Catholics (I am one). At this point I am much closer to being a Deist, leaning Agnostic/Atheist even, than an actual Catholic but in a broad survey, if such a category were available, I'd probably be marked as "secular Catholic." And I think most "Catholics" in Europe would fall into that category.

This is a really interesting story that outlines why just looking at employment numbers is kinda super fraudulent and doesnt really tell us a damn thing about the economy, so its no wonder thats a pillar of Trumps platform

I'll admit I'd vote for Trump if he eliminated my annual dues to my temple.

Isn't Trump a germaphobe? I don't think they do well with pets.

"For long, at least."

I am from Akron, Ohio, and in the early 90s, one of my tutoring students came in and said the police were digging near the property line of their backyard. It turns out they were digging up the first victim of Mr. Jeffrey Dahmer. #creepy

They don't really do well with anything. Infants and toddlers freak them out as well, because, let's face it, they are germ transports, too, as far as a germophobe is concerned.

That's what he said but I don't believe him. He doesn't seem to mind shaking hands or sexually assaulting women

My 4th-grader has been home sick from school this week and the last couple days has been binge-watching "Adam Ruins Everything." One of the episodes was on the economy - I asked him if it covered unemployment figures and he said yes.

His entire world view is being turned upside-down by these shows.

It's expensive right? I've only ever gone to reform/conservative temples as a schnorrer. I've only ever paid my way at Chabad.

Perhaps he has some type of Presidenting Mad Libs on his phone - "Reviewing the [NOUN] with my team at the @WhiteHouse!" - and he goofed and simply tweeted the fill in the blank part.

He claims to be a germophobe but he’ll bang aging sex workers without a condom

Yup. Fortunately, a couple annual fees - religious school tuition and a building fund - will drop off within the next few years.

And the Bat Mitzvah ain't cheap (though we're not going balls-to-the-wall like a lot of people in my area do).
