Reagan kicked off his 1980 campaign in the town that was celebrating the lynching of Emmett Till. Totes coincidence though.

re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency
Someone explain to me why the Dems adopting PAYGO is a good thing for the Dems specifically? Even if in theory it's good for the fiscal health of the country, GOP can't raise taxes because Grover Norquist, so it seems to me like the only option to get anything passed spending-wise will be to cut spending elsewhere, and GOP won't cut military spending ever because FREEDOM etc.

It was in Philadelphia, Mississippi where these people were murdered.

It doesn't matter. They can waive it on specific bills which they would do if they needed to. But the Democrats won't actually be passing any bills that will get signed into law so the whole point is moot. I don't know why anyone cares about this.

FFS, man. We went over this months ago. Trumpkin has a meaning that everyone has agreed to. One of the critical elements is that a Trumpkin is a supporter of Trump. You can't wish that away. That's reality.
So while some posters may use the same persuasive techniques Trump and his supporters might use, if those posters hate Trump, then they, by definition, can't be Trumpkins.
It's really not that ****ing hard.

From what I gleaned from Twitter the upside to PAYGO is that it gets rid of the stupid "OMG we can't possibly raise the debt ceiling!!" bull**** so it removes that tool from the R arsenal.

re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency
Does this passing of PAYGO expire in two years? If so it's totally fine, if not it's possibly a big strategic mistake...
In other news, I took the discount on AAPL... Didn't realize until I checked, it's down a whopping ~40% from its October peak. Thanks, Obama!
Disclaimer: my track record trading is awful, and I only buy-and-hold. I think AAPL is good in the mid-term (~five years), but I don't love it long term. Couldn't pass on such a big discount that is related to fundamentals that I think will shift massively in two years unless we descend into authoritarian rule, in which case I probably won't give a **** about my portfolio.

The asymmetry is remarkable. Triggering the libs is consequence-free except for some words of elitist disapproval, maybe. Can't piss off the right though-- they're *******s with guns.

re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency
The idea that the real problem with Trump is that he's a loud-mouthed idiot who blows chunks of adderal boogers all over everyone, tweets awful things, and is radically ignorant being what is worst about him and what makes him a right-winger is a wrong and dangerous take. His values are "I get mine. **** you. Especially if you can't do anything for me." That's the problem and he shares it with almost all the GOP and probably a narrow majority of the Dems.

that's true micro and actually his loud mouthed idiotness blowing chunks of adderall boogers all over everyone, tweeting awful things, and radical ignorance is the primary driver of the dysfunction that is hamstringing the GOP from doing insidious stuff they really want to do and keeping a low profile about it. so they're really his best qualities.

I’m differentiating a trumpkin from trumpism, but your point is fair. To be honest, I’m also using it because of how much it bothers them.

This is my concern. In a world where Things Matter, it gives the opposition a huge mallet to hit them over the head with every time they want to try to raise revenues or increase spending for things like Medicare for all, with the added downside of not getting anything passed anyway because Senate.

This is how it always works in the US. Republicans rack up massive debt and then Dems have to clean it up. The genius is the GOP have convinced huge swaths of America it’s the reverse.

Paul Whelen's own attorney said this:

“This is a long process,” Mr. Zherebenkov said. “I myself hope that we can rescue and bring home one Russian soul.”

PAYGO is ****ing terrible and another example of how much centrist Dems blow chunks and are subservient to trying to appeal to the mythical moderate Republican.

I think he made a spitwad from a piece of one of the documents in front of him and shoved it up his nose like a paste-eating 4yo.
