I gotta admit, Bernie is killing it in his response

Ann Coulter is like one of those ex-Scientologists who goes on a crusade against their former cult:

Yup, and the gaslighting is taking hold. Scary stuff. People in the know are so used to his lies, that we just expect them and barely discuss them during an event like the SOTU. He probably told 10+ big lies, and 50+ small ones tonight. I bet last year we live fact-checked it a lot more... and we're in like the top 1% of politically aware citizens. I think there's a similar effect in the media, his lying is just baked in at this point so some of it flies under the radar.

Here's a great example: he made some claim about illegal border crossings going down drastically in places where a wall was built. This is (I assume) a factually accurate statement, but it is wildly misleading.

Imagine that you have an area like this:

----- ------ ----- ----- -----

There are 100 illegal border crossings in a set period of time, evenly split between the four gaps in barriers - 25 a piece. You add some wall.

---------------- -------------------------

You close in three of the gaps, and border crossings drop to 95 - all in the one gap. But the places where you built the wall saw a 100% decline, whereas the place where you didn't saw a massive increase and the overall number didn't go down much at all.

Meanwhile, 200 people came in to that area legally on a visa and overstayed it, so the wall is totally irrelevant for them... Thus it wasn't even a 5% decrease in illegal immigration for this area, but a 1.6% decrease.

Never the less, the statement that "in the areas that built the wall, illegal immigration went down significantly," is true... and to the average person who's not thinking much about it, it sounds like a significant justification for building a massive border wall.

As far as I'm concerned, to knowingly make a statement like that is a gross distortion of the truth tantamount to a lie. But WaPo may only give it like 1.5 pinnochios (just guessing) and nobody is really talking about it from the coverage I've seen.

They were clapping because their election was in many ways a rebuke of Trump and his policy. Trump was clapping because he thought they were clapping for him, and he thought he was soaking in the adoration of the opposing party.

Glad you enjoyed it, though.

It's just so ****ing easy. And the Dems are never going to do this. **** it, I'm on the Bernie 2020 hype train.

While I acknowledged the results of the 2018 election here in Georgia – I did not and we cannot accept efforts to undermine our right to vote. That’s why I started a nonpartisan organization called Fair Fight to advocate for voting rights.

This is the next battle for our democracy, one where all eligible citizens can have their say about the vision we want for our country. We must reject the cynicism that says allowing every eligible vote to be cast and counted is a “power grab.” Americans understand that these are the values our brave men and women in uniform and our veterans risk their lives to defend. The foundation of our moral leadership around the globe is free and fair elections, where voters pick their leaders – not where politicians pick their voters.

Trump always looks so happy when he describes the women being raped on the journey to America. "Duct tape over their mouth. They can't breathe!" Such a sick puppy.

I'm happy you thought it was great, but you are 100 percent incorrect.

The women were cheering for themselves, laughing that Trump thought he was winning points when they were in their seats because they and their constituents hate Trump.

Some of the women were interviewed later and said so themselves.

It was like when the UN laughed at him and he thought it was with him.

Guess i gave away that I didn’t watch a minute of either SOTU or the responses but I’m glad Abrams talked about disenfranchisement! Next year Dems should have Seth Abrams give the response instead.

Unfortunately that **** upstream about Americans agreeing with Trump on immigration is pretty true. The USA is ready for National Socialism and Trump is the dude to deliver. Like every Republican that's ever posted in this forum is on the Trump train for a wall and a good 20% of the regular libs are as well and that's in a group of people left of the Dem party generally and knowing that any talk about the threat of immigration is risking a heap of scorn.

The undocumented in this country and anyone who cares about them or people trying to get here are very lucky that there isn't a Republican in office who wanted to build a big wall and didn't talk about it like an idiot or have ICE be so out in the open about turning into the SS. The Dems would have caved in a second.

Total waste of two years trying the same losing strategy that lost them 2016.
Yep, those dumb dumb Dems ran on Stormy Daniels and Russia in 2018, and that's why they lost 20 House seats. Maybe if they ran on health care and unpopular tax cuts instead, they would've won like I dunno 40 seats. But I feel you, brother. All those "witch hunts" the Democrats are on have def cost them the electorate.

So we shouldn’t investigate treason by the president?

The Democrats actually did win 40 house seats so I think he's being sarcastic

Yup.

I wanted to like the Stacey Abrams response, but it didn't click for me at all.

The Democrats would do so much better if they struck the word "bipartisan" and all its forms from their vocabulary.

Except they didn't. Dems for the most part actually ran on policy and had a disciplined message. Expanding Medicaid was a key part of their message.
02-06-2019 , 09:23 AM
Democrats still trying to tank elections but winning despite themselves.
02-06-2019 , 09:28 AM
Most recent Chapo absolutely nails it on heath care. The minute you hear the word “access” you know the game is over.

Damn everyone is tense after that glorious SOTU, can’t even dis Shuffle and his Rusher obsession without people missing the point.

Did anyone get the DNC survey? I wonder what people say on those things and how much it influences the party platform. I ask because I do feel like their emails still talk about collusion and how Trump is a danger but you don’t really hear politicians talking about it so much anymore. AOC leading the charge to talk about policy that progressives actually want, like focusing on climate change and making the wealthy pay their fair share.
