Dear Lord, he's got the common sense and understanding of world affairs of a 5 year old (and I feel bad that I just insulted a bunch of 5 year olds).

Inherently, nothing. But when the opportunity costs flip-flop the reason for having them becomes the reason for not having them.

For the first time in decades, more manufacturing jobs are returning to the United States than are going offshore. However, about 4 million manufacturing jobs have still been lost to offshoring over the last decades, based on the $500 billion U.S. trade deficit. The Reshoring Initiative concludes that about 25 percent of these jobs are reshorable at current levels of U.S. competitiveness. The survey will provide insight into the mix of policy changes needed to reshore the other 75 percent.

Trump photos on his Facebook and Instagram accounts were photoshopped to make him look thinner AND to increase the lengths of his fingers

I'm pretty bearish on the Chinese economic future, at least as far as taking over the world is concerned, but they are and will remain a long way from the days when their GDP per capita was $300.

And by "overall good" I mean humans generally. On some time scales it may not be clear what the environmental impact is, but in the long run I think China and India progressing as rapidly as possible towards a wealthier modern technologically advanced state will be good. The alternative is not them remaining in the pre-industrial age for a long time, but prolonging the worst of the industrial revolution along with population growth.

Even if you mean US 'Muricans only by "overall good" it's still probably for the overall good. Only if you mean a limited sub-set of 'Muricans is it maybe not for the "overall good" and a value system that places a modest negative impact on a small group of people still more than an order of magnitude richer than average over the lives of more than a billion people is awful.

Good friend of mine who is a lawyer at POR's fed courthouse now working for free (three kids). What's the next decision-forcing milestone here? The Senate is going to vote on Trump's bull**** and somehow they think that's going to bring some Dems to their side? This entire thing is so ****ing unbelievably stupid.

Your source doesn't seem to provide a source for this, is it just assuming that every $125,000 in trade deficit is a job lost? If so, it doesn't really make sense considering that not only did manufacturing jobs increase, so did our trade deficit with China.

Trump saying that "Amnesty will only be used for a much bigger deal" is an intolerable admission that should be jumped on. Had he said "regulations on emissions at aluminum plants" instead of amnesty, or even "punishment of Saudi Arabia" that would be fine. But "amnesty" is either clearly right or clearly wrong. Trump's statement implies either that he is willing to bargain away something that is clearly wrong, or worse yet, he thinks it is clearly right but is holding back something clearly right as a negotiating tactic.

I don't know if they derived that number from the ground up or divided the deficit by manufacturing output per worker. For some reason 6,000 jobs per $1B in deficit comes to mind. So $125K is in the ballpark I guess.

we should have a worker exchange program so that Americans who want to work in manufacturing can move to China and do it for local wages there and Chinese who want to work in tech or education or the service industry can move here.
