You mean Trump's withdrawal of DACA, right?

remember when rep and the rest got super salty at even the prospect of discussing daca for some wall funding bc "there is no chance it would ever happen."

and yet...what is it? life comes at you fast?

ofc, it was pretty dumb consider it impossible when such a discussion had already happened before.

The Dems are dumb if they don't try to go for the GOP's throat here. Nothing matters more to Trump than his wall.

Do you think he really cares about citizenship vs. path to citizenship vs. amnesty for DACA kids? Ask for the sun, moon and the stars. All he cares about is his ****ing wall. And I don't know if the GOP senators are going to be able to stare down a House passed bill with Wall funding if @realdonaldtrump tweets "THE WALL IS FUNDED. PASS THIS BILL. SENATE GOP MUST VOTE YES."

My memory is that people (including me) opined that Dems should not negotiate a DACA for WALL deal, and certainly not accept such a deal.

I don't remember people saying that Trump would not offer such a deal.

its being shut down bc of bolded. the posters here deal in facts and do not show proper deference to trump and the right wing pov.

He's not offering DACA though, he's saying status quo for 3 years. He's also assuming that holding the government hostage is a valid negotiating tactic.

I think it is entirely reasonable, even desirable, for undocumented immigrants to go through the usual naturalization process just like every other naturalized citizen. I imagine some of them want to remain Mexican or whatever citizens anyway. Immediate legal status is good though. Immediately eligible to get a green card, etc.

many people got really mad that we were even discussing what the dems should offer for 5b funding or the full wall. they screamed bloody murder that such discussion was a terrible derail.

If it is shut down, it will be because the people who complain about how they are treated have finally pissed of the management enough that they are willing to give up page views to not have to deal with those emails.

I see what you're saying, but my recollection of the argument was trade the wall for DACA, not negotiate. I still think coming back with anything but open the government and we'll talk about the wall legitimizes the tactic.

Getting some sort of major concession in exchange for like $2Bn seems fine, but this offer is super weak. No deal.

This was basically just a stunt to make it look like Trump's trying to compromise to the viewers at home. It's not a bad play.

re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency

I think Vecernicek's post above is a little harsh and over the line in the context of The New Respectful Politics Forum.

That said, I agree with his sentiment, especially if awval is going to just continue to drop his takes in here without engaging with posts that provide substantive disagreement with what he's saying. His complaint in the LC thread was this:

Given his behavior so far in this one day sample size, where he has both not been called a Nazi but is still not really engaging with his opponents, it sounds more like awval wants a safe space where his ideas won't be challenged.

It's a weak deal, but he's now shown he wants to negotiate. So just re-raise.

I am engaging.

Not enough to agree to the wall.

Dems must re-raise.

Open the government before any negotiations take place is the only acceptable play, otherwise Trump can take it hostage again in the future. Dems looking smart for once.

We need true bipartisan support. Time to reach across the isle and work together. We will not be controlled by the radical left enemy of the state dems and Nancy Pelosi.

You should seriously be exiled from the Politics forums. You don't post in good faith. You don't discuss politics. You're little spiking the football with "We took back our country!" was just a sign that you have no real political stances other than "owning libs". You're basically trolling whether or not you realize you're trolling.

Okay, I now better understand what you are saying.

Count me among the posters that opined that Dems should not negotiate anything in return for the Wall. You don't negotiate with terrorists, open the government and then we can discuss border security, etc. We don't need to revisit all the arguments that were put forth along those lines.

I would not call such a discussion a derail, and hope that I did not do so at the time (if so I apologize).

I completely continue to hold that view. Especially in light of the "offer" Trump made today.
