re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency
imo - Trump was all panicked about the Buzzfeed story so decided to cause some chaos with declaring emergency today. Now the Buzzfeed story is questioned though.

Mainstream enough for the Mainstream Media to run with the article non-stop for the past two days. Seen more talking heads discussing it on the TV than the fact that estimates of children taken from their parents were a bit ‘off’.

Saw someone on twitter saying there's a big difference between Buzzfeed and Buzzfeed News. Seemingly BN has got like 8 Pulitzer nominations in the last couple of years.

Buzzfeed News ****ed up. Mueller drove a stake through whatever credibility that organization has managed to build up separate from "Buzzfeed".
Trump is going to twist that stake repeatedly until Buzzfeed News is devoid of respectable journalists.

They really should have changed their name completely. Buzzfeed News is a horrible name for an organization trying to be a legitimate news source.

The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: Individual 1, Thread 2, Year 3.
Buzzfeed’s sources will end up being SDNY, who is handling a lot of the Cohen stuff and is leaky
They likely showed buzzfeed evidence of Cohen being asked to perjure himself but there is some subtlety that Mueller disagrees with in terms of how it was portrayed by buzzfeed (maybe no electronic evidence of trump saying it)
So there is something there but not exactly the way Buzzfeed put it
That’s why Mueller didn’t squash it completely but rather gave a lawyerly rebuttal of it.
It’ll end up being true that Cohen was asked to perjure himself but either trump did it through an intermediary or there is less hard evidence of trump doing it than BF led on and it’ll depend on other people to corroborate or something similar
Because it’s basically true but not in the way buzzfeed put it but at the same time the house is now Democrats and can act on it, Mueller wanted to speak out to slow the house down on going all in on this; but since he didn’t say it was fully wrong, it’s likely mostly true, just prolly not as hard of evidence on the don himself

re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency
Also, note that trump’s team didn’t deny it at first but just called Cohen a liar because they know it’s true he was asked to perjure himself and were worried that there may be evidence
But later Giuliani came out and categorically denied it...likely means Whitaker talked to Mueller and found out no hard evidence on his side and told trump that so Giuliani was able to deny...problem with having a loyalist for the criminal in that position

I think the confused response from the Trump team is just them being confused hacks. Like every time Giulian does an interview there’s a fair chance he blows up his own client’s defense.

New forums aren't going to have people I've been talking with for 10 years on it.

re: The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: State of Emergency
Mueller basically said it’s totally wrong. I tried reading it other ways but given Mueller’s background and how he’s handled leaks so far, I just don’t think he’d deny Buzzfeed in the way he did unless Buzzfeed is just way off base.
My guess is Mueller has something but nothing close to a smoking gun.

It's probably the correct political line for Trump to publicize his attempts at "compromise", even if his proposed compromises are complete horse****.

I think a permanent DACA fix (sounds like his offer will be 3 years) for a measly $5.7 billion is a win for everyone. But how will Anne coulter react?

It’s not just 5.7 billion
It’s 5.7 billion to start a wall that will be an endless money pit grifters delight forever and ever
Also. He’s holding the nation hostage to get this project started
The response should be **** you **** your wall open the government.

And then what's to stop him asking another 5 billion for the next CR, which is the end of Feb isn't it?

Possible. OTOH, it may be that he's desperately trying ANYTHING to get off the tiger. The worlds greatest negotiator painted his butt into a corner and has to break a window to get out.
He's smart enough to know (I think) that this would reset the news cycle and if something else shiny comes along (N. Korea, terrorist event, who knows) it'll leave him alone for awhile.
He just wants to play golf. I guess the questions to be answered are 1) Will the DACA deal be enough for Pelosi to go for it 2) Does the turtle go along.

I would hope that the deal would not just be for a one month CR. No reason they couldn't pass a CR for the entire fiscal year.

If the response is anything other than “**** you, no,” I’ll be very, very disappointed and will basically go full Chapo Trap House from here on out.

Is it though? Trump literally broke DACA to begin with (even though he campaigned on not doing it) and ended TPS. It’s just different hostages he’s taken to get what he wants.

Now if he literally offered citizenship for the DACA kids in exchange for 5.7 billion for his lolwall, then sure, I’d snap call that. But that will never happen.

Lol remember when we used to have budgets instead of just staring down a cliff every 2 months or so. Ah, the good old days.
