Apparently Trump's announcement tomorrow is going to be that he and McConnell have come up with a plan to end the shutdown and now they need Pelosi to sign off on it in the house. So they're going to try to reverse the current narrative that it is the house with the plan and they're waiting on the Senate/Trump to sign off on it.

Of all the reports out there, to break silence now? WTF? There has to be a strategic reason for the Mueller statement.

It's certainly fair game to question any story from any outlet that relies entirely on anonymous sources and that hasn't been confirmed by any other outlet. We'll see how this pans out.

still that technicality is not going to be caught by any trump supporter, it's all fake news blah blah blah.

This is about to get quite the good era for criminals, we're not far off from video/audio sounding/looking exactly like people said/did it so wtf is gonna constitute proof after that mess happens?

On phone but he later tweeted his source denied the story and he didn't go with it because of that.

The only way impeachment is going to happen is if the Dems are confident they can get 2/3 of the Senate, and that ain't gonna happen.

You could even argue that if the the House impeaches the President and the Senate does not convict, then Trump will have a great reelection slogan: "They acquitted me!"

Because if the Senate fails to convict Trump, that's what it's called: an acquittal.

I think that if there was a smoking gun tape showing Trump directed Cohen to lie to Congress then he would have been impeached and convicted. Or he would resign.

Dems need, what, 20 Republicans to defect for conviction? Bold prediction!

How likely is it that Buzzfeed had information that no other media outlet had? I'm worried that Buzzfeed broke a story that other, more credible outlets had but were not comfortable publishing.

You must be new here, buddy. Nothing matters. We could have Trump on tape doing exactly that, and there is still no way ~20 republican senators a going to vote to convict. Not going to happen. They can spin or handwave away anything because, once again, nothing matters.

My best guess:

- Trump didn't explicitly direct Cohen to lie to congress, which is consistent with Cohen's allocution.
- Buzzfeed's two law enforcement sources are from SDNY. Maybe they had access to some info but got the details about lying to congress wrong, and Buzzfeed made a mistake running with the story.
- Mueller issued the statement because he doesn't want **** to get serious yet for fear of the investigation getting shut down or house dems acting too soon or whatever.

That said, it's interesting to me that Buzzfeed gave the story to SCO before it ran and they had no comment until today. Maybe that's a standard policy or something, I dunno. Or maybe they wanted it to run for some reason, possibly to track leakers?

The non denials by Trump's team are also weird in light of this, although who knows how much the spokespeople actually talk with Trump about details like this. Maybe they had no idea and were just being overly careful.
