The president isn't required to give the SOTU speech to the house of representatives, nor required to be officially invited by anyone to give it.

If it becomes a partisan thing, they will just start giving it in the oval office or in front of a friendly crowd.

To give it in front of a partisan audience would be problematic if he didn't invite all of Congress, why would the opposition show up to some other venue? The story wouldn't be the address it would be why the address wasn't given to Congress.

Aren’t they pretty partisan anyway? The members whose party holds the presidency give a standing ovation every few minutes and the opposition party just sits stoically the entire time

Would be great if every time trump lied a Dem stood up and said “that’s a lie” and walked out.

Trump loves making headlines and stirring up the pot. Why should he care if Democrats do or don't show up? He'll grab another news cycle by doing the address in Bum****, Alabama to a MAGA crowd. Those are the only people he cares about anyway.
