We'll kick things off with some LOLOntario. Some of you may remember former Toronto mayor Rob Ford, who, by the end of his term, had had most of his powers stripped by city council, "spurred by Ford's personal problems, most notably reports of a video showing Ford smoking crack cocaine." To refresh your memory:

Spoiler:

Well, Rob died a couple of years ago, but lucky for us, he has an older brother. In addition to being Rob's biggest supporter, Doug is a former drug dealer, and while city counsellor was found by the city integrity commissioner to have improperly used his influence in municipal matters pertaining to two companies that were clients of his family's company. Trump would be proud.

Doug ran for mayor to succeed Rob. He did not win, despite some strong international support:

Fast forward to January. The Ontario provincial election looms. With the incumbent Liberal premier's popularity among the general electorate rivaling Hillary's among Republicans, the Progressive Conservative Party's leader Patrick Brown was a bigger favourite to win the election than the Golden State Warriors were to win the NBA finals.

But then Brown was accused by two women of engaging in sexual misconduct, and he resigned shortly afterwards, leaving the Conservative Party with no leader and an election four months away. A leadership convention is thrown together, and on the third ballot, after some accusations of voting irregularities and a late-night recount, Doug Ford emerges victorious.

One last thing before we get to today's election. Earlier this week, Rob's widow filed suit against Doug alleging that he was a negligent business manager who cost the late mayor’s family millions and deprived them of the money left behind to support them.
Quote:
The lawsuit claims Deco [the Ford family business] was worth $10-million when founder Douglas Ford Sr. died in 2006 and that the family patriarch amassed personal investments worth between $15-million and $20-million. The company is alleged to have lost more than $5-million over the past six years and Randy [Rob and Doug's brother] and Doug Ford are accused of an “ongoing liquidation of investments” to fund the company and their own interests, shrinking the family fortune to less than $6-million.

As a result, the lawsuit says that in recent years the brothers have sought to “maintain the untrue public appearance of a successful business enterprise.”

Doug Ford, who has based much of his campaign for premier on his credentials as a successful businessman, denied the claims made by Ms. Ford. (https://www.theglobeandmail.com/cana...mily-business/)
Trump would be proud.

Now you'd think running a racist, drug dealing, ethics violating, failed businessman populist clown might hurt your chances, but Doug is the overwhelming favourite to win in today's election. We will have confirmation in about 6 hours.

Got a chuckle out of Progressive Conservatives. I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to hold a world view that is intellectually and morally bankrupt.

i thought progressives and conservatives were opposite
06-07-2018 , 04:09 PM
At the federal level the Progressive Conservative Party merged with the Reform Party (who were a more conservative party that had splintered from the Progressive Conservatives) to form the Conservative Reform Alliance Party, until it was pointed out what that acronym was. Now they just call themselves the Conservative Party of Canada.

All wankers and splitters, of course.

I voted for Ford today, not proud of it. The alternatives were far worse though.
Also, The Conservative party in Canada isn't some super right wing party like the Republicans. They are often more left than the Democratic party would be in the US, but not always.

Also, do not compare Ford and Trump. They are nothing close to being alike in any way.

In more lolCanada, here is our current leader

lol, the Reform Party was the Tea Party before the Tea Party existed. The current Conservatives are just like Gingrich-level right.

Let's see what The Globe and Mail (Canada's NYT/WSJ) has to say about Ford
Quote:
When Rob Ford was mayor and his brother Doug was de facto deputy mayor, there was political chaos, lies and evasions, attacks on the press, and content-free ranting virtually every day. And that was before the crack scandal that enveloped Rob Ford. When Doug Ford ran for mayor in 2014, he made numerous false claims and misleading statements on the campaign trail.
Yeah, nothing like Trump.

The Conservative Party in Canada is more left than the Democrats in the US? I don't think so...

Ya'll are making me second guess my decision to claim my Canadian citizenship.

You think Horwath would have been any good? Like, seriously?

Our province has already been screwed over by Wynne. Ya, I prefer Hudak or Tory like infinitely more than Ford. I still prefer Ford over Horwath or Wynne though.

Also, the progressive conservatives for Ontario are left of the Conservative Party of Canada.

I think Ford is the only one with a chance in hell of undoing the damage that Wynne did.

Ford is an idiot that knows nothing and has never achieved anything. His daddy made a company and gave it to him, taught him basic conservative talking points, and that's it. If the Conservatives achieve anything it will all be in spite of Doug Ford, not because of him.
06-07-2018 , 06:13 PM
Lolllll big.
06-07-2018 , 06:18 PM
disagree, Doug is actually pretty smart. I don't have great confidence in him, but I have some confidence which is far more than I have in the other candidates. Also, Doug and his brother are the least corrupt politicians pretty much ever.

Wynne is a giant idiot and Horwath probably is one too

At least she's a law-abiding adult. Ford's neither.

Libertarian is authoritarian. I'm confused by graph now.

I thought this forum liked to give second chances to dealers when they were still under 18, of non harmful drugs (weed)?
Especially the ones smart enough to have never been caught, or does that only count if they are socialists?

That Ford family has to be related to the ones that own the Lions. You are doomed.
06-07-2018 , 06:41 PM
Would releasing an economic plan or not lying about it over and over be something a smart person would do?

I challenge you to find a single example of a smart observation he has made. Not a slogan. Not a personal attack. Any intelligent thought about anything at all. Go for it.
