They knew he wasn’t one of them when he shushed “he’s an Arab” lady.

Is it raining and he is unable to golf?

This is basically all he's going to do for the next 2 years. Without the House, he doesn't have a Republican legislative agenda to keep him distracted and sniping at moderate Rs like in his first 2. He's already done all the crazy executive orders Bannon & Miller told him to do. His wall is dead, except as a talking point. He obviously has no interest working on any sort of bipartisan policy agenda like some presidents might try in his spot. He literally has nothing to do but golf and tweet propaganda. It's all just unadulterated gaslighting and demagoguery from here.

It amazes me how many people think that incident made McCain look good. It was actually incredibly ****ing racist.

The incident

Are you saying McCain is the racist here? Maybe it only looks "good" to me through today's lens, but what did I miss?

Should he have said "There's nothing wrong with being an Arab" or something like that? I don't think that would have sounded any better tbh.

I mean I get it, he said "No, he's not an Arab, he's a decent family man," implying that those are mutually exclusive or something. I give him a pass though in that it was an off-the-cuff comment whose main purpose was to defend Obama from her accusation of being "not one of us" or whatever.

I don't believe that was McCain's intention at all. As you said it's an off-the-cuff remark and he could have phrased it better.

I can understand giving him the benefit of the doubt since it’s an unexpected thing to hear, but his response basically validates the idea that there’s something wrong with being an Arab. Plus when you look at his history, it’s not really hard to draw the conclusion that he was a racist pos.

McCain doesn't look bad in that video. He wasn't trying to say Arab's aren't good family people. But it's not just that one lady who looks terrible. The whole crowd is bitterly disappointed with McCain and salivating for a racist buffoon like Trump.

McCain was in an awkward spot politically there, it's not like he can say "no he's not stop being a piece of ****". Turns out he should've just agreed with her and he might've won but ya know hard for someone with brain cells to have thought of that at the time.

He could've phrased it better perhaps but that response is fine for having to do it off the cuff--people too easily throw the R word around here.

He did vote against MLK day though and with a 1/3rd of the Senate to sustain a veto of the 1990 Civil Rights Act. You could throw the R word at both of those, but he was certainly no Trump and he was a better person than most of the people in his audience (not saying much).
