Was my first thought.

Libya, Iraq, Iran, Ukraine. Probably others, but I don't care to look it up.

You give up nukes you lose all power. Maybe today, maybe the next president. Maybe the one after. Deals are meaningless.

Yeah yesterday Rubio was essentially calling for the US to invade Venezuela to defend Colombia.

At least we save on oil to move troops as far?

I thought it was holistic kelpsicles.

Really too bad. He had the much rarer type of pancreatic cancer that actually is curable a significant amount of the time, too.

100% Trump will call empty promises a win and get nothing substantial from China.

Meanwhile, Jordan is having to sue "Qiaodan" (and not having much success) to get that brand off the streets. Qiaodan supposedly has ~500 million in sales.

Similar suits brought by Chinese stars like Yao Ming have been much more successful. Hard to think there isn't political motivation here.

There are so many things though on even just a day to day basis that extend the lives of super wealthy people. Just the fact that when you get sick and you’re super-wealthy, the doctor comes to you, instead of having to go sit in a waiting room and get cross-contaminated with everyone elses illnesses probably prevents a lot of complications in elderly billionaires.

Perfect example. I literally just came back from a walk-in because I’ve had an Upper Respiratory Infection for more than a week with fever and a terrible cough, and I went to make sure I don’t have pneumonia. Now to their credit, they did give me a chest x-ray and I was negative for pneumonia, but when that was done, they sent me off with a prescription for antibiotics which I know does jack-all for the almost certainly viral infection that I have. I have to imagine if I was a billionaire who has a doctor and labs on payroll and i don’t have to worry about insurance approving it, they would actually do testing and determine what exactly I have, whether it’s bacterial or viral, and whether antibiotics even make sense.

And then if you were rich they would give you some propofol for a good night’s sleep...

I’m convinced folks who are comfortable financially, but not rich get the best care because they don’t convince doctors to do stupid things or bend to patients will in ways that aren’t in patients best interest.

I don’t think there is a catch all test for viral vs bacteria. If you have been sick for a week already they usually give antibiotics at the point in my experience.

Strange.... Me & my dad have had this same infection for 3 weeks. I thought I got mine for falling asleep with the heating on. But nope 3 weeks it lasted. Same with me dad's.

I actually am pretty sure there is a way to test definitely for a sinus infection through use of a cat scan (although I always get those confused with MRI’s so don’t quote me). And yes, I agree that i got standard care since I’ve been sick for so long, and I’m absolutely taking the antibiotics just in case, but if I was a billionaire, i bet I would have a more definitive diagnosis and treatment.

There’s a lot of viral stuff going around right now, everyone up around me is sick. My 3 year old daughter got sick as well, they actually did test her (nose mucus sample) for flu and RSV but both were negative. My 3 year old handled it much better and was fine in 3 days, 9 days later I’m still sick. Sucks to get old.

I'm not a doctor, but I'd be surprised if they can distinguish a bacterial infection from a virus based on MRI/cat scan alone. I think they need to take a sample for that.

They would have given you a sinus swab and taken a sputum sample, but only because you are a rich moron who is insisting on stupid tests. They would have given you the antibiotics before your test results came back. The odds of an unchecked bacterial infection rise dramatically as time goes by. Especially considering your kid had a negative nasal swab (assuming this was before you went to the doc and they knew about it). Doing tests that aren’t going to change your care plan is what is moronic.

If you can, pick up the book "Extraordinary Care" multiple case vignettes about wealthy/important people who got totally ****ed over/messed up/killed because they got "special" care. I'd note that for one Michal Jackson had a doctor come to him, and he couldn't have killed him more cleanly if he'd hit him in the head with a ****ing axe. I trained at Northwestern in Chicago - on the medicine service we started on the 4th floor and worked our way upwards. On 17 ( I think) was the high roller rooms - looked like Bellagio hotel rooms with all the med equipment cleverly hidden behind sliding panels - it's where the rich and famous went in Chicago to die. We joked that the motto for the operation should have been something like "Near a major medical center" because by the time we got there we were worn out and disinterested.

CT is the test of choice for sinus stuff, if for some reason you want to get one. Generally, you shouldn't unless you're looking for sphenoid sinusitis which is deep in the skull and potentially lethal. Frontal/maxillary sinusitis should be diagnosed easily by anyone beyond an intern by history and exam. How helpful antibiotics are for sinusitis is controversial, although from what I can tell evidence suggest that smokers benefit from antibiotics more than non-smokers.

Generally, if you're yorking up yellow/green/brown crud, and it lasts for more that a week or two a course of antibiotics seems reasonable. If it's clear/watery stuff, probably not. On occasion, people grow ****ing fungus balls in their sinuses, with all sorts of potential disasters possible. You can't actually "swab" a sinus in an office/ER anyway - the openings to the sinuses are tiny, and you'd just end up with a contaminated specimen from the oral flora anyway.

"I’m convinced folks who are comfortable financially, but not rich get the best care because they don’t convince doctors to do stupid things or bend to patients will in ways that aren’t in patients best interest. " - this is absolutely correct. It's also helpful to do what the goddam doctor tells you to do, also.

Lastly, if anyone is using those Neti pot gizmos, for God's sake use sterile/distilled water, not tap water - some poor ******* did, and got their brain eaten up by an amoeba recently.

MM MD

hobbes,

My grandpa used to snort salt water every day. Just salt and water in a cup, put in hands and snort it. Is that fine? Would you only do it with distilled or boiled water?

I had heard the Neti pot story and when I decided to try a salt water rinse (congestion headache) I just did it my grandpa's way instead of Neti pot (my wife got one some time back - hasn't used it for a while afaik). And I've recommended this to one of my daughters who frequently is congested and has had several sinus infections.

I started using this after my transsphenoidal surgery on the advice of my otolaryngologist https://www.amazon.com/NeilMed-100-S.../dp/B000RDZFZ0. I use with boiled water ( but let it cool down first obv). If just using salt, I think you want non iodized, like kosher salt.
