The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: Harm to Ongoing Matter The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: Harm to Ongoing Matter

So at the press conference today will Trump:

A) Declare victory and sign the bill without wall money
B) Declare victory and call a national emergency so that the senate can pass the bill without wall money that he will sign
C) Declare victory and rant at the media and blame everyone else for his problems

We shouldn't just be so accepting of this use of military force to arrest a private citizen who has allegedly committed a nonviolent crime.
Counterpoint: it was Roger Stone. Screw that’s guy.

People are arrogant and stupid. When I was a prosecutor one oft favorite forms of evidence was jail calls. It said right at the beginning of every call “this call is being recorded and may be monitored” and yet criminals constantly made admissions and discussed their crimes on the phone. They never thought I was actually listening despite the warning to them in every phone call that I was.

Presumably Mitch would bring this bill to a vote and it would pass with 60 votes (or would pass with a majority but wouldn't be filibustered). I don't know if the senate and house bills would have to go to committee but at some point Trump would have the option to sign or veto it. So the senate would be passing the buck to Trump and putting the pressure on him.

Has Trump ever indicated he would be satisfied with anything less than a physical barrier across the entire border?

I'm confused because I hear people saying the 5.7B would be for about 300 miles of additional fencing and I even heard one lawmaker say something like "Nobody's talking about a wall from sea to shining sea" but I think that's exactly what Trump is, and has always been, talking about.

I mean, if there's any end to the fence, they'll just drive their powerful hot-rods to the end of it and take a left (usually a left, sometimes a right...)

I was on a jury once where a key piece of evidence was a jail call recording wherein the defendant told his mother to smash a cell phone with a hammer and get rid of it.

Well one of the first things they tell you when you enter a police interrogation is that "you have the right to remain silent" but the number of people who actually do remain silent is very, very low.

They give you a literal cheat code to beat any police interrogation and virtually no one takes it. LOL

Pretty sure this must have been posted somewhere on this forum before but it's worth a repeat anyway even if that's the case.

Guess we know the answer to the question, "Will Trump pardon the people involved in the collusion?"

There has been no plans given or confirmed from his speeches. From context he wants a physical barrier from sea to sea, but since there is no actual plan for it the wall becomes whatever he needs it to be, it's a Chekovian Moscow FFS.

They just yesterday voted against the bill

Lol at them forcing Mitch to bring a bill they won’t vote for

Each and every one of those 46 republican senators who voted no yesterday is complicit in this shutdown

Nothing like Friday's with Mueller. Trump is getting smacked around like a rented mule by Pelosi and Stone's arrest is making him even more unhinged. That tweet should be quoted by future presidents. Trump wants to lash out but all he can do is cave. His current top advisers, Kushner and Miller, couldn't do strategic planning for a lemonade stand.

Everyone knew he was going to lose if he forced a shutdown--I'd bet anything Mitch sternly told him this in no uncertain terms--and the moron goes and does it anyway. It's like he's chasing losses, with Mueller closing in he keeps upping the stakes and losing. Even the "shake things up" low information voters who put him in office are starting to face reality. (Want to get on the local news of people who don't follow politics closely via cable, twitter, and/or NTY? Shutting the government down is like jumping into a spotlight.) Not sure exactly how this will end, but it won't be with everyone living happily ever after.

That reminds me, I wanted to re-propose my $100 "Trump doesn't make it to the start of next year" bet. I lost the last one, but I'm feeling confident. My side is that Trump isn't president on Jan. 1, 2020. Any takers? (One available at this price.)

So if the government opens up for 3 weeks, then what? They debate the wall, Democrats will never approve it. Will it just shut down again after that or will Republicans agree to a long term funding bill without wall money?

I would love to take this bet and end up paying you.

I can't imagine Republicans or Trump will want to put themselves in this position again. They'll accept whatever Pelosi tells them to as long as they can get it done quietly.

CNN still saying they are being told the White House prefers not to use the national emergency declaration, but how many times are they going to pump fake on this before they do it?

I set the over/under at Ersan Ilyasova.

I hope the federal workers learn something from all this.

The next time a shutdown takes place, stop coming to work. Immediately. Essential or not. Lets see how long they keep rhe government closed when they cant hire a replacement with a picth like "come work for us for no pay!"
