Well you should be I went to Private Christian Education from grades 1-12 I would say 1 out of a 100 actually displayed a true Christian following. Most would sacrifice their believes for a $

Anyway: Watch out everyone, Mike Pence is "deeply offended" by his wife getting criticism for being a homophobic bigot

Nice, I like the part where in order to avoid addressing the LGBT part he inadvertently suggests that all "Christian education" is rampantly homophobic! I thought the school was, like, "no gay kids" but it goes beyond that into demanding your political beliefs as well:
oh yea and it gets even worse. I went to a christian school K-12. This stuff is pretty standard. There was a pretty extensive interview for any new students coming into the school. Later on, they kind of had a problem with those of us who had started since Kindergarten, since a fair number of us had kind of left the teachings of the church. New arrivals they made sure to be really fervent but they couldnt kick us out unless we blatantly did anything "bad" - like for instance, one 18 year old senior got expelled for LEGALLY smoking cigarettes OFF CAMPUS. **** like that. And they'd monitor you super closely. Social media was an emerging thing back then but my understanding is nowadays they closely monitor that stuff. In my day they'd monitor you by hiring 18-20 year old "cool" guys to get you to open up to them about what was going on in your life and then they'd use it against you.

But yea no ****ing way could there be gays. You couldnt even discuss it. They also forced a really really strict and repressive dress code on the girls and basically had none for boys. I could go on - it was terrible. I imagine there are a lot of places like this in the country. It ****s with your mind, I dont know anyone else who came out of that environment that's really doing that well.

There was a lot of racism as well but I wasnt as sensitive to it back then, but my personal favorite is not celebrating MLK day because he was "an adulterer." It was because he was black.

Is "Christian education" the way Pence/you guys are using it a distinct thing, or does it encompass all Christian-derived education? Because, like, Catholic school is not an uncommon thing even in the Bay Area but I don't think it's all that strict around here...

(in SF in particular, for anyone with money but not tech-CEO money, parochial schools are the cheapest option to keep your kids out of the SF public school system)

Not sure how you guys made it through 12 years of christian education. I didn't even make it through 1 year of CCD (I think that's what they called it) before I got tossed outta da club.

I think this is the beginning of the end, if true.

Catholic schools are more laid back. Catholics in general seem more laid-back than this brand of fundie that pence comes from

While I believe the Buzzfeed story is true, it's probably worth noting the unsavory details about co-reporter Jason Leopold's background highlighted in the following piece. While the Valerie Plame Truthout stuff detailed is by no means a slam-dunk case of fabulism, there are a few other minor scandals noted towards the end of the piece, including the cancellation of Leopold's memoir for legal reasons. This will probably be the lead story on Hannity tonight (unless they just continue to ignore the whole matter):

Heck if its anything like our province 1/2 the kids and teachers attending or teaching not catholic. Government should never subsidize any religious education system.

More laid-back true, but still bigoted. I went to 12 years of Catholic school and they're not big fans of the gays either. (Or a woman's right to choose, obv.)

I would say that about half the kids there had super-Catholic Italian or Irish parents. The rest were white kids whose parents were not all that religious, but were afraid their kids would get the s**t kicked out of them in the NYC public schools.

Didn't buzzfeed break the trump tower moscow story? I thought they did anyway.

What a world, the only people doing actual journalism (whether this story is true or not) and the third article on it's mainpage is some dude injecting himself with his own semen.

Also it's only the fourth trending topic behind such hard hitting reporting of a hipster food quiz and food arguments that end friendships and someone getting held down and peed on at work.

We're a very pathetic country.

Trump campaign continuing to fundraise off the shutdown

Now asking supporters to send them $20.20 for each fake brick that the campaign will send to Pelosi and Schumer’s offices.

Not the onion

I unfortunately went to a christian school K-8 and in 7th grade a kid got expelled for bringing a condom to school. At the time we were so brainwashed it seemed normal but that is some truly next level insane ****.

Can’t be the emergency announcement so what can it be? Military back to border for new caravan? A new executive order? Or bitching about Nancy and Chuck and asking everyone to send him $20 for a brick?

military is going to build the wall with hurricane/fire relief funds

at my christian school i almost got expelled in 2nd grade for writing a short story in drama class with 3 friends that was loosely based on an old "saved by the bell" episode- remember the one where AC slater comes to school with the black eye because his dad beat him? being the privileged little ****s that we were (all came from good homes), 3 of my friends and i thought it was funny and modeled a story on that which included us running away, pooling our life savings ($5k) to buy a ferrari so that we could drive to brazil for an end battle against our parents at their evil lair, whereupon we stopped at a bar on the way and had cokes because we thought we'd get in trouble if we had beer, and ended with us killing our parents (my friend jack died) and the 3 of us who survived all grew up to be policemen/private detectives who married supermodels and each had like 10+ kids with the implication in our minds being that having lots of kids meant we'd be having lots of sex. it was a pretty brilliant story, actually, but they didn't like it too much- they made this huge deal out of it, snap-suspended us all from school, never once actually asked us where we got the idea from, accused our parents of abusing us (real nice to punish us while you think that's going on), and only relented when my dad reminded them that if they thought we were being abused, they had a legal obligation to report our parents to CPS or whatever and threatened to sue them for everything they had. don't ask me how i made it another 6 years.

After butting heads with Trump administration, top HUD official departs agency
Last fall, Patenaude expressed concern over the Trump administration’s intervention in disaster-recovery money that Congress had appropriated for Puerto Rico and states hit by hurricanes.

President Trump in late September grew incensed after hearing, erroneously, that Puerto Rico was using the emergency money to pay off its debt, according to two people with direct knowledge of Trump’s thinking.

Trump told then-White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly and then-Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney that he did not want a single dollar going to Puerto Rico, because he thought the island was misusing the money and taking advantage of the government, according to a person with direct knowledge of the discussions who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive internal deliberations. Instead, he wanted more of the money to go to Texas and Florida, the person said.

“POTUS was not consolable about this,” the person said.

Patenaude told White House budget officials during an early December meeting in the Situation Room that the money had been appropriated by Congress and must be sent, according to two people with direct knowledge of the meeting. She assured them that HUD had proper oversight of the funds.
