New arrivals they made sure to be really fervent but they couldnt kick us out unless we blatantly did anything "bad" - like for instance, one 18 year old senior got expelled for LEGALLY smoking cigarettes OFF CAMPUS. **** like that. And they'd monitor you super closely. Social media was an emerging thing back then but my understanding is nowadays they closely monitor that stuff. In my day they'd monitor you by hiring 18-20 year old "cool" guys to get you to open up to them about what was going on in your life and then they'd use it against you.
But yea no ****ing way could there be gays. You couldnt even discuss it. They also forced a really really strict and repressive dress code on the girls and basically had none for boys. I could go on - it was terrible. I imagine there are a lot of places like this in the country. It ****s with your mind, I dont know anyone else who came out of that environment that's really doing that well.
There was a lot of racism as well but I wasnt as sensitive to it back then, but my personal favorite is not celebrating MLK day because he was "an adulterer." It was because he was black.
