The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: Harm to Ongoing Matter The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: Harm to Ongoing Matter

People are still way overvaluing Mueller it seems. Your best case is Junior gets indicted and pardoned.

The chances of Trump being indicted are near zero and nothing from the investigation will move the needle in 2020, which is all that really matters.

Having a cynical, no position, weathervane like daou twist in DSA's direction is a promising sign. I think the Opportunist Window could be a better predictor of political winds than the Overton Window.

good post. it's obvious everyone involved is guilty as sin of pretty much everything they're accused of, and it hasn't mattered at all. the hogs will never turn on trump, and therefore nor will elected republicans. #resistance dems are gonna spend all of 2020 whining 'but the independent investigation said he was guilty' and being confused when it doesn't work, because they're stupid babies who still believe in the kayfabe where america is good and fair and just (lol)

“Hasn’t mattered at all”

Flynn. Gonna go to jail
Manafort. Jail
Cohen. Jail

The investigation isn’t even over. When it is, it’s going to show rampant crime for decades

This post should age well

At this point, I’m not sure what purpose opinions such as this serve? Uh, no kidding, there is virtually no chance that Trump will spend time in prison for any crimes he has committed. That doesn’t mean there is still not huge benefit in behaving as if the rule of law holds sway, or should hold sway and apply to the powerful. We should not give up behaving as if truth matters, either, even though the Republican Party and media establishment a wholly committed to creating their own reality. Muller’s report matters and we should treat it seriously and expect other people to treat it seriously.

I think they gambled correctly that now that the House is controlled by dems, people wouldn’t be as outraged at a slow motion Mueller squashing

But we need the Mueller investigation to continue unimpeded.
Rosenstein has said before (can’t find it quickly) that he wouldn’t leave until it was to a point that he felt it was beyond interference. He has insisted he is leaving freely and is not being forced out. This may mean that the investigation is entering a new phase

Those are a lot of nice words about the way things should be, but unfortunately they have little do with reality.

This is like the "when they go low, we go high" stuff.

All that matters at this point is getting as many Democrats who aren't corporate stooges into power and then ramming through Medicare for all, increase taxes, fix civil rights, expand SCOTUS, etc. Future proofing things as much as possible, by any means necessary. Republicans do not give a ****, so we shouldn't either if we don't want to see non-rich, straight, Christian, white males suffer for eternity.

It's a reasonable rule. It was way worse in there before that policy was implemented.

Just play some games there first and you'll be fine.

Even for a tough, hard-headed realist like yourself, isn't a criminal investigation into the president kind of beneficial for purposes of getting members of the other party elected? Or is the only required electoral strategy here just to demand the enactment of your preferred policies with great conviction and intensity? Kind of disappointing that no one ever thought of that before.
