I'm following this Whitacker thing because it's manifestly unconstitutional and, frankly, personally offensive to appoint a criminal shill as AG.

Despite the slowdown I got through TSA at JFK in about 20 minutes.

I'll have to rely on this thread for a summary of the speech.

Techincally, it isn't.

It's an autonomous Danish dependent territory.

Kind of nitty because it does have limited self-rule and its own parliament but is technically not a country.

People on tv breathlessly yelling about a wall on the Mexico boarder that will never be built about weather a wall on the Mexico boarder will ever be built or not. Gg Trump you got em.

It's semantics, but it generally is considered a country. The Wiki entry begins:

Quote:
Greenland (Greenlandic: Kalaallit Nunaat, pronounced [kalaːɬit nunaːt]; Danish: Grønland, pronounced [ˈɡʁɶnˌlanˀ]) is an autonomous constituent country of the Kingdom of Denmark
As far as I'm aware, it's a country in every way that Scotland is a country, for example.

I think a lot of people associate sovereignty with the word "country" when there are, like Greenland/the members of the UK/the members of the Netherlands, groups of countries that make up a sovereign state.

Those people aren't wrong, like, when someone says "there are X countries in the world" they're not counting constituent countries separately. It's more like, you can use the word country to talk about non-sovereign entities, it's just uncommon and wonky.

Absolutely. Wikipedia:

Quote:
Scotland (Scots: Scotland, Scottish Gaelic: Alba [ˈal̪ˠapə] (About this soundlisten)) is a country that is part of the United Kingdom.
There's some discussion of the definition of "country" on the Wiki page, but there's no absolutely defining set of rules. Suffice to say that full sovereignty isn't necessary.

Have shared a house with a roommate for the past ~2 years, we haven't talked much politics but I know that he leans left and thinks Trump is an idiot.

Tonight he was getting pretty riled up, railing against Trump and the wall, can't believe how dumb republicans are, Fox News is garbage how could they show it at the gym, etc.

I threw on MSNBC just now hoping to get a glimpse of Maddow chatting with AOC, instead it was Chris Hayes and some other guy. Took me some time to get it streaming because I never watch cable news.

Within a few minutes.... "Do we get CNN instead?? Gotta be careful because some of these channels are pretty biased against Trump and you can't really trust them"

Cool

You spell counsel just as poorly as Trump, that's gotta feel good.

I’m not a lawyer so I might be mixing up things.

Seems to me he has a claim that his lawyers are incompetent so maybe he shouldn’t have pleaded to what he has so far. Also, can’t he claim some kind of reputational hit assuming that detail would have remained secret forever?

To be clear I'd take any regular poster here over Trump in this contest up to and including the point in which the reg was force fed 10 shots of tequila, gouged in the eyes and waterboarded while labeling the map.

he could appeal down the road, however, incompetent counsel isn't de facto ineffective assistance of counsel. just because your lawyer is incompetent doesn't mean it would have affected the outcome.

the damages joke is just lawyers being nitpicky. whenever anyone says "sue someone" every lawyer starts doing the damages calculation dance in our heads, because thats the only thing that really matters.

eta- not being able to redact things falls more under incompetent than "ineffective".. they probably explained to him the procedures and things, they are just **** at executing stuff.
