Let me say this again. I can’t be more clear.

I agree with AOCs overall plans

I agree taxes on the rich should be way way higher.

I’m simply arguing a technical point that wealth and estate taxes are a better way to raise those funds.

Of course, there will 100% be posts following this one that call me a secret GOPer who wants to cut taxes on the rich.
Her plan is essentially returning to tax rates in effect for a big chunk of the post war years last century.

I know but I don’t see how that is automatically a claim in its favour? Surely you are not arguing the entire post war expansion can be accounted for in the tax system?

All we care about is raising the money to fund the green revolution. If there is a better way to do it, than what was done in the past, why not do that?

I think by instituting a wealth tax and raising estate taxes a lot we can raise the same funds as a very high marginal tax rate which can hurt innovation and is easier to avoid.

No one cares what you think. Can you show a wealth/estate tax (which is a much tougher sell than an income tax) is going to raise more money than AOC’s plan? Can you show that higher income tax will do anything to the rate of innovation?

I'm not saying this what-would-you-trade-for-the-wall derail is worse than the 1917 Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne derailment that killed 675 people, but I'm not not saying it either.
01-06-2019 , 12:19 AM
Would you give Trump $3.50 for his wall to end the derail?
01-06-2019 , 12:25 AM
That’s an odd definition of a derail when this is a thread dedicated to trumps presidency and he has talked and tweeted about nothing else for weeks and the US government is currently shut down over said wall.

As bad as this sounds, I'm going to have to disagree in hopes of displacing the the trade-for-a-wall DERAIL with new what-constitutes-a-derail-derail.

the #1 poster in the trump thread has always been the most unhinged poster in the forum. rip einbert. rip ourhouse. then there was a glitch for a while when i was the #1 poster. and now we're back to the normal pattern

I honestly hope he does at this point because : 1. It means that whoever is the next democratic president gets to snap declare a national emergency because of people dying and say the government will pay for everyone’s health care, and 2. It ends the shutdown. Like someone should literally run for president on 1.
01-06-2019 , 12:37 AM
It’s odd he hasn’t declared an emergency. Someone behind the scenes must be literally tying him down so he doesn’t.

It would give him such a dictator boner.

National Emergency to send troops to round up all the Democrats in the government and make them work for free, or to use FEMA money to build some token section of the wall?
01-06-2019 , 12:47 AM
National emergency does seem like a pretty likely outcome. It allows Trump to declare victory and re-open the government without any deal from Dems. Don't see how else he is going to get out of this without capitulating.

I also think this is the best outcome - government is re-opened and most likely court will strike down the attempt by Trump to declare a national emergency.

How exactly does "national emergency" work?

Basically what he does is hire a stooge to set fire to the Reichstag and then he blames it on communists and uses that as an excuse to declare a national emergency and invade Poland. Or something like that anyway.

Come on people, they just tested the system!

Was this discussed already?

That's the first I've seen of it. Commandeering the Army to build a border wall is so nuts. This whole thing is too ridiculous. Its like people think Trump's wall idea is a brilliant and new strategy to reduce illegal immigration. Its literally the first idea that a ten year old would come up with if you asked him the best way to prevent the person over there from coming over here. Its been thought of and rejected. We've thought of a wall. We've rejected it. There's no need to do it again. JFC.

anyway, it seems that ppl have already forgotten that trump agreed to a path for citizenship in exchange for wall funding about a year ago. the republicans at the table gently told him that he should not.
yep, you still mad

I'd sell one of my pinkies for $10 million, but since it is incredibly unlikely that someone will offer me that deal, the only effect of me spitballing the scenario is it gives the impression I would consider parting with a finger even though that is something I'm absolutely not going to do under any plausible real-world situation. I'm keeping my fingers and Trump can shove his stupid ****ing wall up his fat ****ing ass.
and obv this, the whole ****ing point all along
