DACA is a stop gap measure that is basically right at the line for what the president can do by executive order. It does not give permanent status or a path to citizenship. Congress has the power to do that for 1.2 million people. You’d be crazy not to be willing to accept that for 5 billion for a wall that people on the left say doesn’t even do anything. It may be a non starter to actually pass because Senate republicans don’t really care about the wall. But you lose nothing if all you do is drive a wedge between Trump and the republican congressional leadership.

After negotiations, Dem leaders say Trump threatened to keep the government shut down for months or years

lmao please do this

Quote:
President Trump told congressional leaders Friday that he would keep the federal government closed for “months or even years” amid a dispute over border wall funding, as the White House scrambled to unify the GOP behind Trump while some Republicans are showing impatience with the now two-week old shutdown.

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said that during a contentious and nearly two-hour meeting inside the White House situation room, Democrats told Trump: “We needed the government open.”

“He resisted,” Schumer said. “In fact, he said he’d keep the government closed for a very long period of time, months or even years.”

Btw I could be misinterpreting DACA - and maybe I mean Dream Act. I want something legislative that Trump can't just undo a month later.

Lol at any federal worker who voted for Trump.

5Billion this time, next time it's 10. This time it's the wall next time it's English as the National Language or banning muslims from holding government jobs. This is a stupid place for caving to this imbecile.

Shutdown won't go past April. People want their IRS refunds.

Unless they pass a specific bill to fund the IRS and not anything else.

Caving into T is like caving to a drug addict.... Its that simple, tbh Chuck and Nancy have been great so far. Give him absolutely zero.

Yeah, I get that. Although construction is a little different. Those workers are often desperately needed to get the job done, especially in tight labor markets where the contractor is facing tight deadlines/liquidated damages. Manufacturing and production is a different story, though. A lot of the abuse that occurs there happens out of sight.

I probably shouldn't have watched 'Fast Food Nation' tbh.

I don't think there's even a tiny chance Trump would accept DACA for $5B for the wall. But if he did it would destroy him with the base, drive a wedge between the base and moderates who more or less support DACA and don't care about the wall, AND do real good at the same time. Which is why IMO dems should at least be loudly and publicly floating it as an option. If nothing else to get moderates and the super-racist frothy base bickering with each other about it.

Just because courts are upholding something for now doesn't mean it will always be that way. It sucked being in online poker limbo for those few years between the UIGEA and Black Friday. Now imagine instead of losing online poker, you might be a senior in college, still worried you could deported at any moment to a country you never knew.
this is complete bull****. every ****ing deplorable and "moderate" (lol) republican that i know tries to mansplain about how he's not racist and he's so totes for LEGAL immigration, but we gotta keep the ILLEGALS out and thats why we need a WALL

DACA aint driving no wedge between anybody ffs, and it's already being upheld in the courts as we speak. let that **** play out and stop trying to sell the farm to these *******s

The base can't leave him because they're addicted to liberal tears. I wouldn't worry about making Trump look like an idiot. The goal should be to get him stress eating as much as possible

It's not caving if you can get a piece of legislation you've been trying to pass for 20 years out of the deal and make people's lives substantially better in the process. And drive a huge wedge in the middle of the Republican party to boot.

Bills have to be approved by both houses of congress.

you ****ing idiots. give them $5B, give trump a W to tout on his signature issue/promise, and set terrible precedent just to have something done which they don't really oppose and is already being litigated in courts with favorable outcomes for our side

Cave on the wall, goodbye 2020...... Goodbye cruel world.

Trump now saying he might declare a national emergency to build the wall. I'll be on the look out for his text on that.

It's different for the executive (President, Governor etc.). There is too much power concentrated in these top executive positions that needs to be kept in check. Being one of 100 senators or one of 435 representatives is nowhere near that.

No, they just passed one without any wall money. Bills from previous congresses are dead when the new one starts.
