The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: Harm to Ongoing Matter The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: Harm to Ongoing Matter

What else could possibly be shooting out of his nose? That’s crazy.

Definitely not in this reality, but authoritarianism is truly a both sides thing. The last Dem presidential candidate sponsored a flag burning bill in the US Senate. My generally good representative Ted Lieu has tried to put people in prison for organizing boycotts on Israel.

I'm confused about why Lindsey Graham is winding Trump up to never compromise on the wall. It's not that I think Lindsey Graham is a good person. To the contrary, I think he has pretty clear shown that he is not a good person.

But however bad he is, I would have assumed that: (i) the wall was not a personal priority for him; (ii) he did not actually believe that the "success" of the Trump presidency depended on building on the wall; and (iii) even if the success of the Trump presidency depended on building the wall, that would concern Graham only insofar as Trump's failure would have broader implications for the party.

He either thinks it's good for him politically or someone is scratching his back.

I am also amused this morning that the thread and Twitter have concluded the most likely thing to come out of a nose is something other than a booger.

Many people I grew up around believe exactly this.

You guys really need to start differentiating degree and kind. These purity tests are so insane. You are drawing equivence between Ted Lieu and Donald Trump for christ’s sake!

I would assume it’s cuz Graham’s up for re-election in 20 with a 41/40 approval/disapproval split in a state with a higher approval rating for Rump than him

When the nose belongs to the sniffer in chief the probabilities change. As my good friend Savid Dlansky would say you need to update your priors.

If they do equivalent things then there is an equivalence. Purity tests are how the GOP won (basically) everything. It's the moral thing to do and the evidence suggests it's good politics too.

I get that Graham feels like he needs to support Trump for his own selfish reasons. I'm still confused about why he thinks that publicly stating that Trump can never budge one inch on the wall is the best way to support Trump.

I just can't see the Democrats fully capitulating on this issue. And if Trump gets a quarter of a loaf, or God forbid half a loaf from the Democrats, he needs to be able to declare victory. Graham's posturing only makes it harder for Trump to declare victory in those scenarios.

I'm kinda thinking Trump's line on China is maybe the best or least bad thing he's done as president. Trade war stuff with allies is LOL terrible but kinda makes sense that he takes a hard line with China after all their years of IP theft and currency manipulation, no? Certainly there was a better way to go about the process of correcting them but like I said, perhaps the least bad line he's taken on anything significant. Low bar and all, I know.

In what way is putting people in prison for organizing boycotts not heinous and deplorable?

As a concept, taking a harder line on China for the bolded has been non-controversial in both parties for a while. As you say, implementation details are the rub.

As was calling Jeb "low energy" and Bannon "sloppy Steve". Insults are quite possibly the only thing Trump does well.

No. Even if you are an IP hawk, wtf is Trump doing about that?

And "currency manipulation"? That's BS.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bro...ipulation/amp/

For those reasons it's BS, but not only those reasons.

Low Energy Jeb was an absolutely devastating bit of political messaging. 1/2020th isn't as good but it's quite strong.
01-03-2019 , 12:24 PM
Ya that tweet is exactly why Warren can't be the nominee.
01-03-2019 , 12:32 PM
zero chance the dolt in chief made that, it's too well-done

gg liz (i mean not really but sorta, lol)

Meh. If Warren can actually get some messaging that is both inspirational and making-people's-lives-better-oriented, and she's smart enough to just ignore the Pocohontas attacks, she should be just fine. Let Trump rehash the same old insults over and over instead of actually giving people something to care about.

She's probably a dog to meet either condition, but it's not over because of this.
