Pardon my ignorance, but is a shutdown even a bad thing when the GOP controls all branches? Isn't no gov't better than a GOP-run gov't, in that the passing of evil legislation is paused during the shutdown?

But also, in any other line of work, if you decide to stop showing up to work because of a disagreement with your coworkers, your ass gets fired. Why can't we the people just fire all their asses and hold a special election to replace them?

I've been running 50 ppp for over a decade on here and just started getting the slow loading on that thread very recently, like within last month.

I didn't complain, but ftr, I am a 50ppp user and there was definitely lag in the thread.

It wasn't unbearable lag, but I'd see it in action by going to the main Politics page and opening a bunch of tabs for unread threads. Then you look up at your browser tabs, and all the threads would have finished loading except the Trump thread, which would lag a few seconds behind.

Again, not terrible, but it's not something people were imagining. In gif form, comparing the opening of the LC thread to the Trump thread:

A slowing economy. Mueller. New York investigators. House Democrat majority and their upcoming inquiries . Now add the principled resignation of Mattis, a government shutdown that Trump said he’d proudly own, and who knows what else down the road. Trump is in for a rough 2019

Saudis 'helped citizen in Oregon hit-and-run manslaughter case flee US'
