The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

Gotta go back to the days of Woodrow Wilson where the top tax bracket and capital gains tax was 77%.

Trump "has shown more respect for our troops in the first nine months then the prior president did in his eight years of office," Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) told reporters in the wake of Trump’s remarks on reaching out to families of fallen U.S. service members.

“The president shows a lot of respect for our troops, up to and including the practice that we’ve seen in certain professional teams to not respect the image of the flag that these men and women are fighting and dying for — so I think he’s done a good job," Tillis said.

However, Gates could give ~$250 to every American and still be one of the hundred or so richest people in the world.

But yes, you are correct that the richest people in the US are insanely ****ing rich and most right wingers dead set against tax increases or progressive taxation probably would fail simple quizzes about how much wealth say the 50 richest American families have.
I'm far from expert in this, but I don't think Gates could do this. (btw, DS said "American Families", not "Americans") I assume most of his net worth is in MS stock. Today MS traded about $24M dollars of stock. So, Gates could maybe sell off the $80B over 5 or 10 years or he could just sell his shares and the value of MS would crash and maybe there'd be a chain reaction. Anyway, point being that a fair amount of the superwealth in the US is on paper and a lot of may never ever be realized.

(also a lot of the not-so-superwealth-it's-just-my-retirement-account in the US is just on paper and may never be realized)

He could give away his shares.

Well, sometimes that's what the left IS talking about. Just because the right means giving the super rich tax cuts, doesn't meant that when the left talks about tax increases they're talking about the super rich. The Canadian Liberal party (functionally equivalent to the centrist Dems in the US) is getting dragged through the mud right now because their brilliant scheme for increasing taxes hammers doctors, lawyers, professionals, and small business owners but suspiciously gives a pass to the extremely wealth estates of the well connected (like, oh I don't know, let's pick a random example like, oh look the family of the Prime Minister and the family of the Minister of Finance - what a coincidence!).

Unless that person is themselves. Then "the rich" is obviously some other hypothetical person that has more.

He didn't say a word about politics, which has never happened before despite me always telling him I didn't want to discuss it before hand.

My entire family tells him they don't want to hear his politics lol. He's legit bottom of the barrel deplorable. He's like the people you see on The_Donald.

Really surprised he didn't bring it up this time tbh.

Had Obama told a gold star family they knew what they were getting into, republicans and the right wing media would have literally burned down the Whitehouse. He would have been impeached within a month.

Of course this will be forgotten about trump by the weekend.
10-18-2017 , 11:05 PM
the more **** trump does the more his base thinks surely none of it is true, therefore everything and anything that keeps happening is more lies by the media

crazy thing is, here in ohio kasich was considered a pretty extreme politician in 2011 yrs ago when he won the governorship.

hes been making speeches like that forever.

and there has not been any sort of recent flip. he killed the health care bill bc there will be no repercussions for him. the repubs had been admitting all along that they did want the bill pass. but the senators on the fence did not want to vote against it and risk hurting their reelection chances. mccain fixed all of those problems.

it was not an act of a suddenly righteous person. it was just another hack republican move.

Newsom was viewed as the right wing candidate when he won mayor of San Francisco.

Also, on Newsom. He demonstrates a common tactical mistake that really irks me. The lead up to the election he kept posting on Facebook about gun control. The comment section showed it was galvanizing the pro gun base and likely not doing anything to change the behavior of people who agreed with him. This is speaks to one of the good points d10 keeps making that a lot of his combatants are missing. It's not about converting fence sitters, it's about inspiring the people who agree with you to action, or out of inaction, and NOT feeding the action of the other side. Understanding them is not the same as honoring them. The republicans are not honoring their voters...they are using them. This is the fundamental difference in how the right and left view the game. We think we will reason people into making reasonable choices. They know they can say anything that will play to their emotions and policy does not matter. At all. They will get more value out of pissing off liberals than can be gained from a good policy. They get it. We don't. We just don't. They are the kid that will punch their sibling then tell when they are hit back. They are the guy who steals from work but lives the rest of their life indignant that they were accused of it. The cheating spouse who is angry at being spied on when caught.

We got some of those too, but the more often the lies we want to believe is that the game has any honor. Trump is the epitome of understanding that honor is irrelevant. He demonstrates it at a clip of several times a day. We still, even now don't want to believe it's true. Is this phone conversation really worse than anything else he has done? He was throwing paper towels and joyfully mispronouncing Puerto Rico last week. I was just reminded about the speech he made in front of the CIA memorial right after his inauguration. I don't think there is a single person who could list all of the incredible things he has said or done in the last 9 months from memory. We are lying to ourselves as much as he is lying to us if we are pretending our version of how it works is correct and his is not.

Companies with steady earnings that pay dividends can not see their stock crash no matter how many shares are quickly sold. Thinking otherwise is like thinking that if you quickly sold ten billion twenty dollar bills you couldn't get at least eighteen dollars apiece. Past a certain discount there is a trillion dollars of investment money that would snap up even Gate's portfolio (which is no longer mainly MSFT).

Donald Trump on responsibility and blame

Quote:
President Trump almost admitted Monday that he is failing on his agenda. Then he caught himself.

“We're not getting the job done,” he began, before quickly shifting course. “And I'm not going to blame myself. I'll be honest: They are not getting the job done,” he said, referring to Congress.
LOL

Credit to right wing propaganda there for making the normal bourgeois seem like they're the mega rich,
This isn't some right wing propaganda victory or left wing messaging issue. The actual proposals by the left have substantial tax increases for some guy making 500k while leaving the massive unrealized gains of Bezos et al. untaxed.

The D's will support it because they can see the factual evidence.

It just needs some marketing and a big push. DNC leadership is stupid if they don't spend some $ on this.

(Spoiler: DNC leadership is stupid. So it may take a while.)

Does anyone follow Warren on twitter? Her and Bernie are literally the only people on the left in congress that provide energy and passion for what they believe in. I follow both of them also. They both breathe fire and passion for what's right.

I have watched a lot of Al Franken on Youtube also. That guy is fighting for the good of the country every time I see him.
