What conceivable purpose could you savages have for a personal firearm?
12-13-2012 , 03:52 AM
Well in my time I've angered quite a few violent men by kidnapping them and caging them up, so it's important to protect myself from revenge.

Also to keep the Queen of England from pushing me around.

How, exactly? I don't assume any indoor ranges have shotgun rentals, right?

Both shoot somewhat similarly. I think he was referring to the ergo's of the safety mechanisms, and which one was instinctually easier to use.

I actually looked at this, and am pretty new at dealing with guns so its good to look at a lot of guns and learn about them.

Thankfully the gunshop/range I belong to is very friendly and answers all of my questions. I went to one and they were total dicks/not very helpful.

Protecting my family from someone breaking in.

Collecting rent from tenants.

At least once a month I'll have $3K+ cash on me, and since I own lower income properties, I'm not in the "nicest" neighborhoods. (and that's not counting the money orders/cashier checks I always have on me cause there isn't a day that goes by that I'm not collecting rent from someone)

I try to support brick and mortar places when I can, but you'll almost certainly get gouged buying an AK locally. Online prices are just so much lower even factoring in shipping/FFL transfer. There are exceptions obviously..I'd never buy a WASR without seeing it in person. But if you buy a reputable build you should be fine.

I'd recommend Atlantic Firearms if you do go that route. They have a pretty big selection and I can give you a trick to get a discount.

IYO... thats the point. 500=870 except for ergos (mainly safety) just pick one and your GTG.
12-13-2012 , 11:20 PM
the ergos are better on the 500. just like an AR-15 has better ergos than a ****ing musket.

So, like zees or like zees? Or one with a shoulder rest?

And there's a local outdoor range that offers booths for pistols and rifles, and shotgun patterning for $3/hour. That's just shooting at targets/adjusting something about a choke to something something control where the stuff in the shell goes?

My trip to the range earlier this week landed me a card for a fella that does safety training, albeit without contacting him, so far I only know that he does work at their indoor range, $150 for a 3 hour session. (this would include a 1 year membership to their range, which is normally 25 bucks, but I already had to buy that to try out handguns)

you should get one with a buttstock.
12-14-2012 , 09:58 AM
Yes, get a stock.
12-14-2012 , 10:44 AM
LK fwiw you can always change the stock after you buy it so it's not a permanent decision. it's not like if you get one with a buttstock you're stuck with that forever.

You have a better chance of that gun hurting you or someone in your family than using it to guard your property

That seems like a reasonable reason to have a carry permit. Though do you require a AK 47 or a 30 round Magazine?

There has to be some middle ground that can be achieved at a Federal level

This thread is for people to discuss guns, not gun control. The gun control thread is over there.

So due to all the gun snatching talk, I felt the need to go get a totally irrational gun.

So I did.

Spoiler:

Good for you. Everything I want is either sold out, or I can't justify paying the extra this close to Christmas.
12-15-2012 , 10:57 PM
For the hoplophobes reading and those that will be jealous. Just picked up two m&p shields for Xmas gifts from a dude in a parking lot. $15 over retail and no 2 month wait.
12-15-2012 , 11:18 PM
FFS I'd've sold them to you for $530/gun.

I bought 3 on Bankhead Wednesday.

Anyone know where I can find an unconverted Saiga in 7.62 or 5.45? You know.. the ones that were 350-400 all day and always available? Out of stock everywhere, and it's been that way for over a month.

Not interested in the ~600ish converted models or gunbrololker. I'll buy a Maadi locally before I do that.

Trying to decide between a build from a stripped lower or an 80% one.

I have access to a drill press, but I've never built an AR before. Thoughts?
12-18-2012 , 04:34 PM
I'd go with a stripped lower unless you just enjoy tooling and ****.
12-18-2012 , 04:45 PM
So are we fairly certain assault rifles are going to be banned soon? Can't believe I held out so long on getting an AK. Now I'm screwed it appears.
