Well apparently I wouldn't know because I haven't been a part of that world for almost a decade. The point is that the act of playing poker for profit is parasitic - it's not personal. When I play, I am. When you play, you are. I'm not claiming to be a saint … I'm saying you're living in denial.
If you need the money to get by then you shouldn't feel any guilt about it. That's one of the reasons why I favor robust social safety nets. A lot harder to make virtuous choices when you're worried about having enough to get the basics out of life, and people generally aren't mindless sheep who will do the right thing just because you wag your finger at them.
The topic is about government oversight of these types of industries though and the argument i'm getting at is that discouraging professional play would be desirable in as much as the people who're playing for profit would otherwise have spent their time doing something that isn't antisocial. DUCY?
