By now, everyone in this thread but you figured out there was zero chance. But sure, it probably swung a dem vote. They needed to swing R votes, which even if said he was a serial killer, he was getting voted in.

Just from how we saw things it seems they may have acted to arrest him today because after he tweeted he was definitely planning to try and cause real harm to Nike and they had to stop them. Of course that is my speculation.

Just curious if anyone saw more on today’s timeline.

It needs to be noted that one of the charges is that he inflated his net worth to defraud a bank, which is exactly what Donald Trump has been accused of in the past, but which the DOJ has conveniently never investigated because...

It looks like even the tweet threatening a press conference may have affected their stock value.

(you can see when he made the tweet and when the FBI had the press conference between 12 and 1pm)

We got a Wokebrolympics podium featuring "I TOLD Y'ALL AVENATTI WAS A CROOK LOLUGUYS" standing next to "I TOLD Y'ALL MUELLER WOULD NEVER FIND COLLUSION LOLUGUYS" gloved fists raised high in a Woke Power salute as our anthem plays sadly in the background

Re: Point and Laugh at Michael Avenaughty

So let's say that Nike paid Ayton's mom some money (good for her!). Is that even illegal? I know it's against NCAA law, but who gives a ****? Isn't the worst thing that could happen if that gets disclosed is Ayton loses his NCAA eligibility? Like if my future employer wants to buy my mom a house a few years before I'm employed by them that's not illegal, right? Just an unorthodox compensation scheme.

Re: Point and Laugh at Michael Avenaughty

doing some quick googling, apparently it is illegal because the victim is...the university. ****ing NCAA.

Quote:
What if a tech company like Apple identified a promising computer code writer in high school and paid $100,000 in cash for him to go to Stanford, in hopes he’d later work for the company? Why wouldn't that be a crime, as well?

Wicker said the alleged college basketball bribery would be a crime because the university would have been deceived. But it wouldn't be a crime for a company to pay for a promising employee's education, assuming the payment wasn't concealed, because there are no rules like the NCAA's that prohibit it.

Re: Point and Laugh at Michael Avenaughty

Provided your mom paid all applicable taxes on the value of the gift she received, I don't think it'd be likely that she committed a crime.

Nike, on the other hand, probably wouldn't want the negative attention that paying off amateur athletes would generate, which is the big difference.

But yes, LOL NCAA always and forever.

Re: Point and Laugh at Michael Avenaughty

I'm not all that certain there would be too much negative attention. There wouldn't be anyone legitimately outraged by Zion Williamson being paid a million bucks this year by Nike. He obviously deserves that and much much more. Most folks would be glad to see it go to a unique and exciting talent rather than a ghoul like Coach K.

Re: Point and Laugh at Michael Avenaughty

Meh, nobody would care about that (Zion getting $$$), but I assume a lot of money gets funneled to these apparel companies by the NCAA via team merchandising, advertising, etc. that would be impacted negatively.

Re: Point and Laugh at Michael Avenaughty

Same is true for NFL and NBA teams and apparel companies having relationships with both the teams and the players seems to work just fine at the pro level. The only thing that's being protected is the ridiculous NCAA cartel.

You don't hang out in the right places if you believe the bolded.

If you go to a University of Alabama football game, I would guess that 80% of the white people in attendance believe that being allowed to wear the uniform is more than sufficient compensation for the players.

And of that 80%, nearly all are Trump voters, and nearly all believe that owners should be able to prohibit NFL players from taking a knee during the anthem. General logic would be something like, "yer goddamn right I would stand for the national anthem if the guy paying me $4 million per year told me to stand."

I believe simplicitus was into Avenatti. I always thought Avenatti was scummy and think it was obvious, but I may be prejudiced. Props to you though counsellor.

You are being obtuse. Of course he's worth even more than that in an open labor market. Players not being paid fairly isn't the issue here whatsoever. Also, you are wrong about the bolded. That's lost revenue to all the schools he was steered away from by some apparel company kingpin pushing pawns for personal gain.
