Re: Podcasts

Trump, Inc always worth listening to. https://www.wnycstudios.org/shows/trumpinc New episode on Manafort is up.

Also, Ezra Klein show this week has Adam Davidson, who does the Trump Biz/Corruption beat for the New Yorker. The show is titled, "Taking Trump's Corruption Seriously." https://art19.com/shows/the-ezra-klein-show

Some interesting stuff, particularly about Trump being pinched for cash generally, then the crazy 2014 $200+M blown on money-losing golf courses, paid in cash....by a guy who was tight on cash and "loves leverage". The stuff stinks to high heaven.

Quote of the show from Ezra: "Oh, I worry all the time about a 'competent Trump'. I think it's one of the scariest things you can think about." (at 56:40)

Table Top Game Theory is still my favorite. Matches up Lovecraftian racism and madness with modern Conservative conspiracy theories that, of course, are very similar

That was hilarious. I might be a Crooked Media fan but I loved them tearing into Pfeiffer and his book.

Their episode on conservative cartoonists was terrific as well.

Subscribed to CTH. Well worth it.

Re: Podcasts

Not a recommendation but still funny. Two days ago the AEI released a study about Sander's Medicare for All plan. They pushed out the cost, but people were to quick to catch on that it did reduce overall spending while expanding coverage. So today they've hauled out the study leaders to the Cato podcast to tell them that the assumptions they made wouldn't hold up in the real world, so actually Sander's plan is bad. They're almost painting it as if it were a Sander's study that they're out here refuting but it's their own study with their own assumptions.

Re: Podcasts

I don't think anyone has mentioned this but I like the Energy Gang Podcast by Greentech Media. It covers the environment, climate change, policy and various technologies and companies within the clean tech space.

eps are hit or miss but didn't see any recommendations for any pods similar to this or exclusively about the environment ITT.

When you subscribe they give you a link to an RSS feed, you should be able to paste that into your podcast app.

Yeah this is very good. Gave it a re-listen just now and it holds up really well in terms of most of the takes being accurate.

Haven't listened to the Tabletop Game Theory ones, will do that now.

Yea I do Chapo, Citations Needed, Current Affairs, Majority Report with Sam Seder (don't listen regularly but watch their videos sometimes and want to support), Michael & Us (plus the related Important Cinema Club and other less political ones).

Don't sleep on Michael & Us! Hearing them dunk on Michael Moore movies is hilarious even if you haven't seen the movie they're referencing. Check the feed for discussion on a movie that would interest you and go from there.

Here's a fantastic clip from the Majority Report, where they begrudgingly praise Joe Rogan for arguing Jordan Peterson into accidentally realizing that left wing politics are correct:

(Skip to 15:00 if you really really must, but you gotta get more context on it. It's a seriously phenomenal moment.)

Thought they were below average eps, honestly. They were OK.

After re-listening to We Live in the Zone Now, I have Felix's cold open kind of stuck in my head.

Re: Podcasts

Currently in my rotation (apart from obv stuff like Chapo):

Struggle Session - ostensibly left-oriented pop-culture analysis, really just geekery with lefty geeks. It's sometimes very good and the hosts are all fun and likeable, but it gets a little repetitive in that they almost never seem to actually like anything, or at least, not anything new.

Champagne Sharks - a podcast designed 'to explain white people to black people'. Host @RickyRawls has been on Chapo a couple of times, which is how I heard of it. A fair amount of it is difficult for me to relate to directly, as much because I'm not American as because I'm white, I suspect, but some of it is extremely illuminating, and other parts are very gratifying in how much they validate my suspicions and criticisms of centrist and anodyne identity-only liberal BS. Recommended intro is their multi-part series The Throwaway People, which starts with the Devonte Hart atrocity (I won't say 'tragedy' because that makes it sound like an accident rather than years of child abuse culminating in a multiple murder) and uses that as a base to riff on the relative societal value of black and white people. Channel your inner Fly, basically.

Pod Damn America - new to this one, so can't really give this any kind of high-concept elevator pitch, seems to be just general current affairs/politics from a left perspective. Every episode I've listened to has been solid, though. The intro music is the theme from the SNES version of Donkey Kong Country, in case like me, it bugs you for weeks until you randomly remember.

Have been meaning to get more into The Michael Brooks Show as it seems decent, maybe a little slapdash because it's apparently a live broadcast(?). Who'd have thought the best Obama impression you'll ever hear would be a white guy, though. Felix Biederman and Brooks had this spot months ago riffing on Obama as a Five Percenter that I still chuckle even at the memory of.

Pod save America is THE political podcast. Nothing even comes close to the crooked media podcasts.

Most of the "others" are just bland talking. I fell like I'm back in a art history course. They all put me to sleep.

Excellent!

I too will wait until more eps have been released, I'm too spoiled to wait a week in between eps anymore

I've heard that something called "2+2 Pokercast" is a good weekly ongoing critique of the Obama justice department but can't confirm

Looking forward to season 2 of slow burn. Has anyone listened to the RFK Tapes, talking about RFK's assassination? I've had it downloaded forever but have never been motivated to actually listen to it.

Been a Chapo Patreon subscriber from the beginning. They've fallen off a bit lately imo, but still a weekly must-listen.

Citations Needed is another one I highly recommend.

Re: Podcasts

The Citations Needed episodes on Bill Gates were interesting. I admit that it's tough to dislike him because he *seems* like such a nice guy and *seems* to care about the well-being of humanity, but they lay out some very valid criticisms of his work (no accountability, donations to the same media outlets that write fawning articles about him, in bed with giant agribusinesses)

Meh. They got pretty bland after a while. It's a bunch of mediocre jokes, recitation of news that we already know mixed in with some establishment Democrat support. Those guys blow Obama way too much for my liking.

That's not to say all Crooked Media podcasts are bad. I like Majority 54 and Crooked Conversations. The Wilderness has some interesting bits though I recommend skipping the first 3-4 episodes.

I've leaned more towards Chapo Trap House. The episodes are a bit hit-or-miss but when they hit they're fantastic.

Even my mom, a PSA listener, kind of enjoys Chapo when I recommend an episode to her (though I think she would prefer they swear less):

Just listened to the Chapo about Dan P-feiffer's book. They are SO MEAN to my boys! But it was pretty funny.

Opening Arguments is a podcast discussing current legal events, where the hosts attempt to maintain a moderate view even though they are both strong liberals. The lawyer is P. Andrew Torrez, who handles legal affairs for the Citation Needed guys.

Does anyone have any recommendations for good podcasts on economics and fiscal issues? healthcare, debts, deficits, higher ed, federal reserve, economic numbers with more deep dive analysis than is typical from the MSM?

Even covering different industries is fine.

Trashfuture is also pretty entertaining, in no danger of escaping the 'Chapo, but British' label but 'Chapo, but British' is fine by me.
