I don't think this is true, do you listen regularly? The veneer of it is that it's sticking to numbers, and they do it to an extent which is how I can still listen to them (bad political beliefs plus decent with numbers/thinking, as opposed to say PSA with bad political beliefs and bad with numbers/thinking).

But their Clinton-Obama politics are really clear and often vocalized.

I don't really think they "should" be doing any, but they ocassionally try to and it's embarrassingly bad.

+1 for Pocket Casts - the "trim silence" feature is nice, it's already removed 20 minutes of silence from the stuff I've listened to this week!

This week's "Why Is This Happening?" is good, Chris Hayes interviews reform-minded Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner.

538 is the only politics podcast I listen to religiously.

I liked Pod Save America when it first started out but have found them unlisten-able for a while now.

Going to check out Citations Needed due to this thread.

Today's episode of The Observatory had discussions on AOC's campaign design and TRUMP's ... a e s t h e t i c (for lack of a better word).

Today's Opening Arguments is quite interesting so far - going over good and bad liberal arguments against Kavanaugh, and outlining the blueprint Torrez hopes Democrats will use (they won't) to argue against his confirmation.

Surprised at PSA getting so much ****.

I like that they're politically active themselves while most hosts appear not to be.

Re: Podcasts

Reply All is probably my favorite podcast in existance. Hilarious, insightful, and provides all the context you need to understand all of the bizzare stories that emerge from the internet.

Also, no love for the David Pakman show on here? Among the youtube talk show personalities he is levels above the rest in terms of understanding political nuance and talking about news stories with an evidence based approach. I also think he is unparalleled as an interviewer, especially when it comes to debating conservatives. He is extremely good at picking apart weak arguments and those constructed in bad faith.

Re: Podcasts

I like Kyle Kulinski's politics quite a lot but his YT channel, Secular Talk, is boring. He'd be better with a regular audio podcast and guests on every show rather than guests from time to time.

Kyle's takes on the Russia story are really awful and undermines his credibility for me. I also really dislike his delivery, but to each their own on that.

Re: Podcasts

New hardcore history out with 4.5 hr episode on WWII Japan.

Sarah Kendzior, who is really good, has a new Trump Russia podcast called Gaslit Nation. She did a PhD on authoritarian regimes and wrote The View from Flyover Country.

Kendzior is very hit or miss. She's right on occasionally but suffers a bit from "I gotta hammer and everything looks like a russia nail" syndrome and can sometimes get pretty close to the Mensch horizon.

Re: Podcasts

I think any comparison with Mensch is too much, but she does tend to see Russia everywhere. However, some are probably too conservative. Investigative journalism should be evidence based, but there's room to be aggressive. If you're never wrong you probably aren't trying hard enough, at least these days

Re: Podcasts

After listening to another episode today, I'm reminded that Michael Ian Black's "How To Be Amazing" podcast is great. I know him from his time on MTV's The State, one of the greatest sketch comedy shows ever. But it turns out that he's a really good interviewer, and that's been true across a variety of guests from very different backgrounds. If you see a subject that you think you'd be interested in, it's very likely you'd enjoy the podcast.

The one I listened to today was Dan Pfeiffer (Obama's Communications Director and Pod Save America co-host) and I've also recently enjoyed listening to his interviews with David Cross and Giada De Laurentiis.

I can speak for myself and would guess several others ITT are on the same wavelength; I've moved significantly further left than PSA and have become disgusted with "corporate Democrat" Obama/Clinton-loving centrists like those guys.

I am reasonably sure that Kendzior signal-boosted Mensch back in the early post-election days. Kendzior acted like a lunatic on Twitter for a while in those days, including a series of tweets where she strongly implied that she had been taken to an MSNBC black site:

https://twitter.com/platomachiaveli/...066496?lang=en

She was part of that whole Eric Garner (the "guys! time for a little game theory" asshat)/Andrea Chalupa (had an uncle who knew someone who knew of voting machine hacking in battleground states, tweeted a couple of days after the election that everybody should have like 27 gallons of spare water per person in their home)/Leah McElrath (#resistance grifter like the others) mafia. It's possible she's gotten better over the last year, it's possible her book is decent, it's possible her podcast is decent. But I doubt it.

They definitely have a blind spot when it comes to Obama for obvious reasons.

That doesn't stop them from taking the Democrats to task for being weak and cowardly when they should be fighting back. But getting the dope and his party out of power is the top priority. Purity tests to boot out the Schumers and Pelosis aren't as important at the moment.

For me, it's not that PSA isn't left enough, it's just that they're too low-content. I'm past the point of complaining (or laughing) about Trump and prefer shows that teach me something or go into specific issues.

For us, they are. We're junkies for politics.

I normally don't bother with the interviews or live shows. I like listening when Lovett and to a lesser extent Favreau do the show.

Citations Needed has become more interesting to me.

Re: Podcasts

PSA is basically the politics equivalent of Jalen Rose on the old BS report podcasts. Great behind the scenes gossip and party stories and that's about it.

Re: Podcasts

I love the hardcore history content but there's something about Dan Carlin that rubs me the wrong way aesthetically. Every once in a while I give it another go but I just can't sustain any interest.
